DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- Dothan's most exciting beach allowed some park goers in for the first time since last season.
Water World Dothan held a soft opening today just in time for the park's 40th anniversary.
Season pass holders got a crack at the newly renovated water park.
"We are extremely excited to open Water World up,” said Dothan Leisure Services Director Alison Hall. “We've been waiting for this for over a year to show off these new slides and the new kid cove and we're also just ready to enjoy summer."
Water World will be open solely to season pass holders for the next week.
"Today through the rest of the week we will be working out any kinks we see and working on making sure everything is working properly," Hall explained.
The limited number of guests isn't all that bad as they work out more than just unforeseen kinks.
"We'll be practicing our social distancing as far as how people stand in line for the slides, how they stand in line for concessions,” Hall continued. “We have definitely changed up our concessions operations to make sure that we are in compliance with the health department and all the COVID-19 rules."
There was anticipation for this year's opening.
"We didn't even open for this until 10 a.m., but the first family was in the parking lot at 9 a.m. so that tells you how much people are ready for this and they are excited about this," Hall finished.
Parents like the new park layout.
"Everything's real spread out so you're not right up on people,” said season pass holder Genie Turner. “I feel really comfortable bringing my kids here and playing and getting some summer fun in.”
With all the new attractions, there is not a clear favorite yet.
"Well there's so much new things I don't really know yet."
But the old attractions still weigh heavy on these kids’ heart.
"Going to the wave pool."
"I like the wave pool when they turn on the waves. I like it how they push you around."
"Go on the great white."
The park will officially open to the public on June 27.
