Beyoncé Reveals How Her Family Used Quarantine To Establish an Exciting New Tradition - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Like many people in 2020, Beyoncé also had to adjust to life amid the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. While being stuck in her lavish mansion for days on end likely took the singer some getting used to, she’s been making the most out of her downtime at home with her family.

One way she’s been doing this is by spending quality time with her three kids and has even established a fun new tradition with her little ones that will likely continue on long after the pandemic has come to an end.

The coronavirus forced Beyoncé to live a more relaxed life

Adjusting to life in quarantine likely wasn’t easy for Beyoncé, but just like us, she tried her best to make the most out of her downtime.

During a rare and candid interview with British Vogue, the singer opened up about her life amid the coronavirus pandemic and the effects it has had on her.

She told the outlet that she’s had lots of quiet time these last few months and says that calmness had allowed her to reflect on the things she wants for herself and her family moving forward.

“It would be difficult to experience life in a pandemic and the current social unrest and not be changed. I have learnt that my voice is clearer when I am still,” she said. “I truly cherish this time with my family, and my new goal is to slow down and shed stressful things from my life. I came into the music industry at 15 years old and grew up with the world watching, and I have put out projects non-stop.”

She added, “I released Lemonade during the Formation World Tour, gave birth to twins, performed at Coachella, directed Homecoming, went on another world tour with Jay, then Black Is King, all back to back. It’s been heavy and hectic. I’ve spent a lot of time focusing on building my legacy and representing my culture the best way I know how. Now, I’ve decided to give myself permission to focus on my joy.”

Being at home allowed Beyoncé to bond even more with her kids

Though being at home with her family has allowed Beyoncé to reflect on what’s important in life and take a much-needed breather from her hectic career, it’s also given her the chance to spend more time with her three kids: Blue Ivy, Rumi, and Sir Carter.

During her interview, the Queen Bey opened up about quarantining with her little ones, explaining that she’s been using the pandemic to bond with her kids more.

While self-isolating in her lavish mansion has given her the opportunity to grow closer to her little ones, doing fun activities, such as dressing up in her designer clothes, has helped Beyoncé and her kids make the most out of their time at home in a creative way.

“My kids and I came up with Fashion Fridays. Every Friday, we would dress up in my clothes or make clothes together and take each other’s pictures,” she said. “It became a ritual for us and an opportunity to handle this crazy year together.”

Beyoncé went on to explain that her latest Ivy Park collection was actually “inspired by this new tradition.”

“It consciously uses bright, bold colours to remind us to smile. I used a lot of neon yellow and coral mixed with baby blue and earth tones that felt soothing,” she added. “They brought me joy and made me smile in the midst of a tough time for all of us.”

While playing dress-up with her kids in her designer-filled closet has brought Beyoncé joy these last few months, there are a few family traditions she’s looking forward to the most as the holidays approach.

“My twins are three and now they are old enough to understand Christmas. I love Christmas. We decorate cookies and ornaments,” she said. “We also collect ornaments with everyone’s favorite things. We decorate while jamming to Christmas music. Blue leaves milk and cookies for Santa, and always leaves the most beautiful letters for him. We get up early and open presents and then we have a big lunch with all of our family.

She added, “I love the joy and wonderment of children on Christmas. It makes me feel like a kid.”
