Was that fun or what?
On the second night of a back-to-back, the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Boston Celtics in an absolutely thrilling game that ended on a Luka Doncic step-back three with 0.1 seconds left on the clock.
The Mavericks received quality contributions from Jalen Brunson, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Josh Richardson, but it was Doncic who carried the team to the finish line.
Here are a few numbers to take away from the win that put the Mavericks at .500:

Weird, but impressive company? Either way, Doncic was sensational all game but cranked it up a notch when it mattered most. He finished the game 6-of-8 from three, hitting a variety of catch-and-shoot and off the dribble triples.
5: The number of points scored in the fourth quarter by Mavericks not named Jalen or Luka
Richardson, James Johnson and Willie Cauley-Stein combined for five points in the opening minutes, but after the 7:15 mark in the fourth, Doncic and Brunson scored every single Maverick point the rest of the way. The duo combined to score 25 of the Mavericks’ 30 points. Aside from a few head-scratching plays, Brunson was brilliant in the frame before Doncic put the nail in the coffin.

However, Hardaway still contributed 14 points while only earning two free throws. I only went back one season, but this was only the second time since early last season that Hardaway scored double-digit points without connecting on a triple. He attacked the basket quite a bit and had some highlight-reel dunks because of it.
4:45: The number of minutes Richardson played in the fourth
Richardson started the fourth quarter but subbed out at the 7:15 mark in favor of Doncic and wasn’t seen from again. The Mavericks won, so I’ll keep this brief, but that’s puzzling usage from the Mavericks most important two-way player. He finished the game with 16 points (on 7-of-12 shooting) but scored only two points in the second half. I’m not sure why Dorian Finney-Smith played down the stretch while he sported several zeros in the box score (zero points and zero field goals made). This was not my favorite development, but we’ll see how it plays out going forward.
