What our Sports staff has to say while waiting for the games to resume.
The Europeans winning the 2012 Ryder Cup with a comeback from down 10-4 late on Saturday and down 10-6 heading to Sunday single. No visiting team had ever recovered from that large a deficit.

In the 1993 NCAA Midwest Regional at the Rosemont Horizon, Jason Kidd and Cal shocked Duke in the second round. The Blue Devils were heavily favored to win their straight NCAA men's basketball championship.

St. Francis had a very good boys basketball team in 2012 built around Ryan Coyle, and the Spartans got hot at the right time. Seeded eighth in the Class 3A Glenbard South sectional complex, the Spartans upset No. 1 Orr in the regional final, then shocked No. 5 Crane in the sectional semifinals. Alas, the Spartans couldn't come up with another upset in the sectional final, where they fell to No. 2 Marshall 45-41 in front of another capacity crowd.

I'm sure I'll make Geneva mad because it doesn't consider this an upset, but I'll go with the girls basketball team beating Montini in the 2018 Class 4A state championship game. Montini had been the Vikings' nemesis beating Geneva earlier that season and also knocking them out of the 2016 postseason, but Geneva got its revenge on the biggest stage possible to win its second straight state championship.

I'll go with a near upset. Undefeated Libertyville survived little Mundelein 16-9 in the first round of the 2004 football playoffs. Up late in the fourth, the Wildcats, shockingly, kicked to the only guy who could beat them, Mustangs star Jake Gaebler, who was one tackle away from going the distance. Libertyville went on to win state. Mundelein, to this day, has never won a playoff game.

One of the most-exciting upsets I've covered was Benet's boys basketball team beating Simeon in the 2016 Illinois High School Association Class 4A state semifinals. Benet trailed 48-44 with about 2½ minutes left and scored the final 5 points, capped by Dan Sobolewski's go-ahead 3-pointer. Simeon featured Zach Norvell and Talen Horton-Tucker, both on the L.A. Lakers.
