DES MOINES, Iowa (WOWT) - A fight over abortion is brewing in Iowa: Gov. Kim Reynolds said Wednesday the state will appeal a judge’s ruling.
During a news conference, Reynolds said the state plans to file against a judge’s decision to block a 24-hour waiting period on abortions. The law would have forced women to wait a day before undergoing the procedure.
The Iowa ACLU argued that the law would considerably complicate scheduling, and cause some women to wait weeks before being able to visit a clinic.
“I absolutely don’t agree with the decision, and that’s what the process is for,” she said.
The governor said the next steps for the state will take place in the courtroom.
“We’re pretty confident we can get the outcome we’re looking for,” Reynolds said.
