“Hamilton” has some unfinished business in San Francisco.
But that’s about to change.
The award-winning musical — that came to premature close in San Francisco back in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic — is set to re-open at the Orpheum Theatre in August.
The limited four-week engagement, presented by BroadwaySF, runs Aug. 10-Sept. 5.
“BroadwaySF is back, and we are thrilled that after a 17-month intermission, we’re not only reopening the Orpheum Theatre with ‘Hamilton,’ but will also be the first Broadway theater in California to resume performances,” says Rainier Koeners, managing director of BroadwaySF. “Our plan is to open at 100 percent capacity, and we are working closely with the city of San Francisco to make sure our audience, actors, stagehands and ushers will safely return.”
Show producer Jeffrey Seller adds: “The Bay Area has always been a special place for ‘Hamilton’ after audiences embraced the launch of our first national tour. We are thrilled that ‘Hamilton’ will reopen in San Francisco and play for four final weeks before continuing on as a west coast tour.”
The San Francisco run is in addition to the previously announced three-week stay — Oct. 12-31 — at San Jose’s Center for the Performing Arts October 12-31, 2021. That run also will employ 100 percent capacity.
Tickets for both “Hamilton runs, in San Francisco and San Jose. go on sale at 10 a.m. June 2. Orpheum tickets can be bought at www.hamilton.broadwaysf.com, while ducats for the San Jose run can be had at www.broadwaysanjose.com.
Tickets are $49-$299. Plus — in keeping with the regular, totally cool “Hamilton” protocol — there will also be a limited number of $10 seats offered up in a lottery for all performances.
“There’s no clearer sign that San Francisco is coming back to life than seeing live performances returning to our stages,” says San Francisco Mayor London Breed. “Everyone has sacrificed so much over the past year to keep each other safe, and that meant that we couldn’t enjoy the shows and events that make our city such a special place.
“Now, with case numbers low and our vaccination rate approaching 80 percent, we’re excited that Hamilton is coming back to the Orpheum Theatre for our residents and visitors to enjoy once again.”
