George R. R. Martin Says Elden Ring Was Too Exciting to Refuse - Screen Rant

George R. R. Martin, author of A Song of Ice and Fire, has described Elden Ring as being too exciting to refuse, something which many fans of the upcoming FromSoftware game likely agree with. Elden Ring is due to release in just a few weeks' time, and will take players to the Lands Between for yet another tough-as-nails fantasy adventure.

One of the most highly-anticipated releases of the year is none other than Elden Ring, which will combine the skills of game director Hidetaka Miyazaki and fantasy author Martin. Martin has lent his talents to the game's story and lore, with a rich history of the world and its characters already teased by the game's official website and social media accounts. Players will become the Tarnished, tasked with collecting the Great Rune fragments to reforge the shattered Elden Ring, turning themselves into an Elden Lord. The title is so highly-desired, Elden Ring won TGA's Most Anticipated Game two years in a row.

In a blog post from George R. R. Martin (via GameSpot), the writer has outlined his thoughts on Elden Ring, and detailed some of the behind-the-scenes stories on his involvements. Describing video games as "not really my thing," Martin goes on to state that the offer to work on the story and lore of the game was too exciting to refuse, before praising Miyazaki and the FromSoft team. He writes:

"This offer was too exciting to refuse.  Miyazaki and his team from FromSoftware were doing groundbreaking stuff with gorgeous art, and what they wanted from me was just a bit of worldbuilding: a deep, dark, resonant world to serve as a foundation for the game they planned to create.  And as it happens, I love creating worlds and writing imaginary history."

Fans have already gotten a good look at the game thanks to updates that have revealed more about its world and characters, but it could be argued that nothing whet player appetites more than the November Elden Ring Closed Network Test. Some users who applied for a code were selected to play the game during set hours over a weekend, giving players the opportunity to experience Elden Ring first-hand. Reception to the gameplay, world design, and features, were positive, continuing to drive excitement for the title's full release.

Martin's words on Elden Ring have also helped to fuel hype for its upcoming launch. After admitting he doesn't play modern games, it's not clear if the writer plans to delve into the title himself, but it's very possible seeing as this is the first time he's collaborated on a video game outside of the world of Game of Thrones. In the same blog post, the writer went on to praise the graphics of the finished product, describing Elden Ring as incredible-looking, and sharing his excitement over the release. Fans can keep an eye on Martin's blog for more updates as the game's launch approaches.
