LOWELL, Mass. - UMass Lowell Field Hockey Head Coach Shannon LeBlanc released her team's full schedule for the upcoming 2022 season on Wednesday. The 18-game campaign will begin with a trip to five-time national champion Connecticut of the Big East Conference on Friday, August 26. That contest is set to begin at 1 p.m.
 
"Opening with perennial power UConn will be a great start for us to see how accountable we were in our summer training," said LeBlanc, who is heading into her 21st season as head coach of the program.
 
The 2022 schedule features an even split of nine America East Conference contests and nine non-conference matchups. The squad's non-conference opponents represent six different athletic conferences.
 
The River Hawks will play their home opener on Sunday, August 28 at 1 p.m. when they square off against LIU for just the second time ever.
 
UMass Lowell plays its largest stretch of home games during the month of September, including a five-game homestand beginning on Sept. 5 against Wagner. The team remains at Wicked Blue to host Patriot League power Boston University on Sept. 9 and Valley rival Merrimack on Sept. 11 before opening America East Conference action on Sept. 16 against Stanford. The River Hawks then wrap up the home stretch against UC Davis on Sept. 18.
 
"As always, we are looking to be playing our best hockey in October, so we believe our September opponents should prepare us well for that," added LeBlanc.
 
Just as September is home heavy, October lines up to be a tough road stretch, with five in a row away from friendly confines to open the month. The team visits conference foes Vermont (Oct. 7) and UAlbany (Oct. 14), in addition to Northeastern (Oct. 2), Harvard (Oct. 9) and Dartmouth (Oct. 16).
 
"Harvard was in the Final Four last season," explained LeBlanc, "so it will be a golden opportunity to see where we measure against one of the top programs in the country."
 
The team will wrap up the season with three straight home games, starting with brand new America East opponent Bryant on Oct. 22. California (Oct. 28) visits Wicked Blue to open the final weekend of the regular season and Monmouth (Oct. 30) is slated to be in town for the regular season finale.
 
"Our conference schedule will be exciting with parity amongst all of the teams, so each game outcome will be crucial to achieve our ultimate goal of winning the America East Championship," she concluded.
