Love, Tua and more made for exciting night for sportsbooks - Yahoo Sports

Thursday night was beautiful. An evening with a slice of normalcy. A sporting event that we got to watch, that we did not know the outcome to, for the first time in over a month. And for those watching the betting odds closely, after Joe Burrow and Chase Young were selected with the first two picks of the draft, that is when the evening got exciting ... Here are the most surprising picks:

1. Jeffrey Okudah goes No. 3 (+200)

Despite some news of a possible trade, Detroit kept its pick and selected the best cornerback available. If you waited it out, Okudah going number three netted you some decent cash with 2-1 odds.

2. Andrew Thomas is in a New York state of mind (+500)

This first shocker of the night came with the fourth overall pick. Early in the draft process, Isaiah Simmons seemed like the pick for New York (N). But, as the calendar approached April 23, offensive tackle became the favorite for that selection. Iowa's Tristan Wirfs or Alabama's Jedrick Wills, that was the debate for the fourth overall pick. Negative. New York picked Georgia's Andrew Thomas. Thomas was +350 to be the first offensive lineman picked, +400 to be the second offensive player selected, +200 to go in the top five, and +500 to be New York's (N) first pick.

3. Tua is taking his talents to South Beach (+130)

#TankForTua. That was what most people believed Miami was doing in 2019. Ultimately, a 5-11 record meant the fifth overall pick. After a lot of rumors about concerns over Tua Tagovailoa's health, Miami liking Justin Herbert more, or wanting to trade up for an offensive tackle, Miami went with the former Alabama quarterback. Tua went off at +130 to land in Miami and -200 to be the second quarterback picked.

4. Herbert headed to the City of Angels (+200)

Former Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert will stay out on the west coast after being the sixth pick on Thursday night. Miami was the favorite to land Herbert (+130) but Los Angeles (A) selected him (+200) after Miami went with Tua.

5. Derrick Brown to Carolina (+300)

With three quarterbacks going in the first six, the new coaching staff in Carolina had a ton of defensive talent to pick from at seven. Auburn's Derrick Brown was the choice over Clemson's Isaiah Simmons. If you have Brown landing in Carolina, you got to cash a 3-1 ticket.

6. Simmons off to the desert (+700)

One of the most physically gifted prospects in this year's draft class was still available with the eighth pick in the draft. Despite most mock drafts expecting Arizona to pick an offensive lineman, Clemson's Isaiah Simmons was the choice. His odds of landing in Arizona were juicy at +700.

7. What happens in Vegas...

Las Vegas had a pair of first-round picks on Thursday night and both were a bit surprising. At 12, Alabama WR Henry Ruggs III was the pick. Ruggs was +500 to be the first wide receiver selected (CeeDee Lamb was the favorite at -167). If you had Ruggs going to Las Vegas and being the first wide receiver picks… Congratulations. Ruggs was +600 to land in Sin City. With the 19th pick, Las Vegas selected Ohio St. CB Damon Arnette. It was a bit of surprised to hear the former Buckeyes name that early. Arnette was +200 to be a first-round pick.

8. Jeudy lands in Denver (+500)

The over/under on when Jerry Jeudy would get selected was 12.5. Denver needed help at wide receiver and Jeudy was available at 15. General Manager John Elway went with the former Alabama wideout. Denver, Las Vegas, and New York (A) were the favorites to land Jeudy at +500.

9. CeeDee slips to Dallas (+3300)

Oklahoma WR CeeDee Lamb was the favorite to be the first wide receiver selected on Thursday night. But at 17, he was still available and Dallas could not resist adding another weapon to its offense. Dallas was not discussed by anyone as a possible destination for Lamb and that's why his odds were +3300.

10. Green Bay trades up to grab Love (+800)

It was anticipated that Utah St. QB Jordan Love would go in the first round. Where he would land was the mystery. New England? New Orleans? Las Vegas? Eventually, Green Bay felt the need to trade up four spots to secure Love. Since Aaron Rodgers is under contract through 2023, Love was +800 to be selected by Green Bay.

11. Bad beat to close the first round

With Kansas City on the clock with the final pick of the first round, no running back had been selected. The over/under on running backs to go in the first was 0.5. Kansas City decided to add to its embarrassment of riches on offense and select LSU RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Edwards-Helaire was a surprise to be the first running back selected with +300 odds. Georgia's DeAndre Swift was the favorite at -182.
