CARROLLTON TOWNSHIP, MI - Carrollton Public Schools will not return to in-person classes until the beginning of 2021, the district in Saginaw County announced Wednesday, Oct. 28.
A letter to the community from Superintendent Rachel Snell states the Carrollton Board of Education voted to delay the start of face-to-face learning until Monday, Jan. 25, at the start of the next semester. The board decided to continue with the current remote learning plan after reviewing COVID-19 data, according to the letter.
“Current trend data shows that COVID cases are increasing across the state and county, with several surrounding school districts closing buildings in the last few days,” the letter reads. “Thank you for your support as we work together through these trying times.”
School officials could not be reached immediately for additional comment.
As new cases of the novel coronavirus spike across the country, some Michigan school districts are exercising caution. Three schools in Bay County temporarily returned to online learning this week after students and staff quarantined because of possible COVID-19 exposures. As it plans to return to a hybrid learning schedule, Saginaw Public Schools purchased hundreds of air purifiers for its classrooms.
