You’ll soon be able to once again order the very best thing you can eat at Disneyland when Buena Vista Street reopens for shopping and dining after a nearly eight-month coronavirus closure that has denied nearly a million hungry souls their guilty fried food fix.

The Disneyland corn dog will be sold at Award Wieners when Buena Vista Street reopens on Nov. 19 as an extension of the Downtown Disney outdoor shopping mall while the rest of Disney California Adventure remains closed.

Disneyland, DCA and Disney’s three Anaheim hotels closed in mid-March and remain closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Downtown Disney reopened in July.

You might want to get in line now outside the gates of DCA — unless you want to be waiting behind a million other Disneyland corn dog fanatics. There could be a lot of pent-up demand for the deep-fried perfection that has been missing from so many appetites during the COVID-19 pandemic.

More than a million corn dogs are sold annually at the Little Red Wagon in Disneyland and the Corn Dog Castle in Disney California Adventure.

Still not convinced of the Disneyland corn dog’s epicurean eminence?

No less a culinary luminary than Orange County Register food critic Brad A. Johnson calls the Disneyland corn dog “damn good.” So good, in fact, that several hours after stuffing his face with a piping-hot, lip-staining corn dog “I haven’t stopped thinking about it since,” Johnson wrote.

Jonathan Gold, the late Pulitzer Prize-winning food critic for the L.A. Weekly and Los Angeles Times, crowned the Disneyland corn dog the undisputed king.

“I can sincerely say that I’ve never had a better corn dog, even at a county fair,” Gold said.

Former Orange County Register food writer and Fast Food Maven blogger Nancy Luna called the corn dog at the Little Red Wagon the “best fast food at Disneyland.”

“The key is the corn dog batter, which leaves the wiener crunchy on the outside yet fluffy and doughy on the inside,” Luna wrote in 2010. “And unlike Hot Dog on a Stick’s perfectly formed dogs, Disneyland’s corn dogs are a bit rough around the edges and girthy — with no two corn dogs looking exactly alike.”

(Disclaimer: I listen to whatever the Fast Food Maven says about restaurants and good eats. I’m married to the Maven.)

Award Wieners has sold corn dogs before when the Corn Dog Castle was closed during the three-year makeover of Paradise Pier completed in 2011 that removed several of the offending rides and much of the pun-filled pop culture veneer.

Award Wieners will offer two versions of the legendary dogs dipped in corn batter and fried to a golden brown: The original corn dog or the hot link alternative. Each comes with your choice of mandarin slices or a bag of chips for $10.

The Hollywood Land food stand will also serve a corn batter-dipped cheddar cheese stick ($9) and apple pie funnel cake fries ($9). You can wash it all down with a Backstreet Brewery Animation IPA ($11), Modelo lager ($10) or michelada ($11).

To encourage social distancing and manage crowds, Disney will use a mobile wait list when Buena Vista Street or its queue reaches capacity. Mobile ordering will be available through the Disneyland app for Award Wieners and other DCA restaurants open as part of the Buena Vista Street shopping and dining experience.

No rides, entertainment or character meet-and-greets will be available in DCA while Buena Vista Street is open for shopping and dining. No admission fee will be charged to enter DCA to shop and dine.
