Hello one and all and welcome to the year 2021! While the pandemic is still ongoing and vaccines are beginning to be administered, there are some more cheerful spots of news in the diary to look forward to – including some special royal birthdays.

Prince Philip is set to turn the big 100 on 10 June (and unlike the majority of people who reach that milestone, he's probably not quite as excited about receiving the traditional birthday card from the Queen... he's likely already got quite a few under his belt seeing as they've been married for 73 years).

Her Majesty herself will turn 95 on 21 April and to celebrate the fact she's the first monarch to do so, she is set to be given a rather special gift – and it's one you can get your hands on too. As is custom for momentous royal occasions such as this, a new set of coins will be released by the Royal Mint, including one worth five pounds. Yep! A shiny new five pound coin is coming to town, people!

However, it won't exactly be commonplace and crop up in your change next time you nip into the Co-Op for a pint of milk and only have a tenner to hand. No sir, the coin (which is one of five new issues) is a collector's item.

The shiny new coin will feature the royal cypher "EIIR" atop the words "My heart and my devotion" – which pays homage to part of the Queen's first ever televised Christmas broadcast back in 1957.

During the speech, she said: "In the old days the monarch led his soldiers on the battlefield and his leadership at all times was close and personal. Today things are very different. I cannot lead you into battle, I do not give you laws or administer justice, but I can do something else, I can give you my heart and my devotion to these old islands and to all the peoples of our brotherhood of nations."

The new collection of coins are already available to purchase and went live today on the Royal Mint website (prices start from £30).

So, err, how do we go about getting a tenner with our face on it for our birthday too then?
