Two of America’s “most vibrant and delicious restaurants in 2021″ are found in Portland, the New York Times wrote in a nationwide list published Tuesday.
The unranked list features an eclectic group of 50 restaurants both old and new that the Times is “most excited about” visiting after 19 months of COVID restrictions. In Portland, the paper chose to spotlight Coquine, Katy Millard and Ksandek Podbielski’s refined Mount Tabor-side restaurant, and Eem, a cocktail-fueled blend of Thai flavors and Texas barbecue.
Coquine and Eem were The Oregonian/OregonLive’s Restaurants of the Year in 2016 and 2019, respectively.
In Seattle, the Times chose three restaurants, the Filipino chef’s counter Archipelago, the sophisticated “Seattle soul” spot Communion and the inventive Korean den Paju.
Where would you have sent the New York Times crew? For the sisig at Magna? Pâté en croute at St. Jack? Indo-Chinese roast pork belly at Oma’s Hideway? Quesadillas dragged through salsa matcha at Republica? Crispy Korean chicken wings topped with dusted ramen “essence” at Toki? A special trip to Seattle’s Canlis to try chef Aisha Ibrahim’s new menu?
