Hello South Jersey! My name is Jenny Oswald and I’m the new director for BBYO South Jersey Region. While, typically, BBYO’s column in the Jewish Voice is written by teens, I wanted to take a moment for this first one of the year to introduce myself.
I grew up in the Philadelphia suburbs and graduated from Muhlenberg College in Allentown. I was an active member of BBYO Philadelphia Region (part of what is now Liberty Region) throughout high school. I joined the BBYO staff team in 2016 after my college graduation and worked for the past four years in Liberty Region, while based in Philadelphia. While I’m still physically in Philadelphia, I joined the BBYO South Jersey team about two months ago and I am thrilled to be getting to know this wonderful community!
I can already see how unique and close-knit this community is. I am looking forward to continuing to meet you all and learning more, while working through what is sure to be an unusual school year for BBYO South Jersey Region!
Despite the barriers we may be facing this school year, I am confident that we will continue to provide valuable, unique and fun experiences to the Jewish teens of South Jersey. In fact, we already have a few exciting things coming up! Please see below for the details.

Join us for our first big event of the year!
BBYO South Jersey Region is joining together with BBYO Ohio Northern Region and BBYO Greater Jersey Hudson River Region on September 26 from 7-9 p.m. to kick off our programming year together with a one-of-a-kind hybrid event. We will spend the first hour on our tri-regional livestream, featuring insane celebrity guests, s’mores, and your favorite BBYO tunes. Amazing Israel Travel Opportunity!
Breaking News! BBYO has a limited number of $3,000 vouchers for teens to use on Israel trips in Summer 2021. The vouchers are not need-based (and you can still apply for additional scholarships separately!). They can be applied to any BBYO Israel trips that are at least 20 days long. We have many different trip options, leaving all throughout the summer. There are also options for graduating seniors—and you’ll still be eligible for Birthright!
The vouchers are first-come, first-serve. All you have to do to get one is put down a deposit for the trip of your choice and fill out the application. Then, you will find out within two weeks whether or not you’ve been awarded a voucher. And it’s totally risk free—any deposit paid now is fully refundable through 3/2/21, so you have almost six months to make changes or cancel if you need to.
