SB Nation Reacts: Fan’s confidence in Colts rebounds; Most exciting Week 3 matchup?; Week 3 fan picks - Stampede Blue

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts where SB Nation gets fan reactions from the previous week’s results, as well as asking questions about the coming week’s slate. We also take a look at the weekly changes in confidence level from the team’s fans.

As the Indianapolis Colts head into Week 3 of the 2020 season, there is now another way to look ahead to their next opponent. After a Week 1 disappointment, the Colts bounced back and dominated the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2. In both of their first two games, the offense was able to move the ball, and the Colts’ defense was able to hold their opponents to minimal yardage throughout the game.

This week, the Colts host the New York Jets who have averaged only 15 points per game offensively, and are allowing 29 points. Since that unexpected loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1, Colts’ fans have regained some of the confidence in the team that they’d previously lost.

Now, the team didn’t gain back all of the confidence they’ve lost with their fans, but they did get a major chunk of it back. Last week the confidence level was sitting in the mid-50s, while this week it’s jumped back up into the mid-80s showing that a defensive effort, and an offensive day filled with positive rushes and minimal turnovers can turn the tide of a fan base.

Naturally, the Colts cannot afford to overlook the Jets — as we point the finger back to Week 1 — but the team should not have any real problems with a team so bereft of talent. However, the Colts have lost to one team this year already in which they were double-digit favorites, so...

History isn’t on the Colts side either, at least recent history. Not that it means a great deal, but the Colts have not fared well in their last five meetings, posting a 1-4 record, and have scored fewer than 17 points in three of those meetings. Let’s just hope the Colts have gotten their season stinker in the rearview and can beat the teams they should absolutely beat from here on out.

Now we move on to this past week’s most exciting game, and ask which Week 3 game we expect to keep us the most engaged.

Though the insane events that piled up in the final quarter of the Dallas Cowboys’ victory over the Atlanta Falcons, that matchup somehow only landed in the No. 2 spot for Week 2 game of the week for fans. Also, the Los Angeles Chargers did make their rookie quarterback’s first start very interesting, that too wasn’t enough to unseat this week’s leader.

Instead, Sunday Night Football’s matchup with the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks was overwhelmingly the top choice with over 40 percent of the vote from fans. This one went down to the wire, and we saw great quarterback play overall, and with a tight score, and back-and-forth scoring to keep us entertained, that’s what is going to take the cake for fans.

Now that Week 2 is in the rearview mirror, there is a solid slate of games in Week 3 to look forward to — a nice set of quarterback matchups to say the least. We’ve got Jared Goff versus Josh Allen who’s started very strong this year, Aaron Rodgers going up against Drew Brees, and Dak Prescott trying to outlast Russell Wilson, just to name a few.

But, this week, it’s a different matchup that fans are most looking forward to watching. Two of the best young quarterbacks in the league, and possibly two of the top three-to-five teams in the league as well will lock horns.

The electric matchup between Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson took this question on the survey by an absolute landslide. Nearly 70 percent of those who took this survey decided that this is the matchup that NFL fans simply cannot miss this week, and I can’t blame them a bit. All in all, this looks to be a fantastic week of football with great matchups to behold.

One of the more interesting questions in this week’s survey asks which of the undefeated teams heading into Week 3 is the biggest fraud. There are several 2-0 teams right now, and unfortunately for the Chicago Bears, they’re all pretty good teams that could have easily been projected to be exactly where they’re at heading into Week 3.

The Bears, however, have been so sloppy through long spans of their first two games this week, and I think it’s safe to say that nobody believes they should currently be amongst the ranks of the undefeated.

And yet, this week, the Bears meet the Falcons (0-2) which leaves a reasonable possibility that this Bears squad could be sitting at 3-0 when the smoke clears. The Falcons are favored slightly at home (-3.0), which is ultimately a push on a neutral field. I’m going to guess that the vast majority of us will simply wait on the score for this one and won’t waste much time trying to find it in their local games for the day.

And finally, we come to our Week 3 fan picks.

Interestingly enough, all of these picks are in line with the teams being favored heading into Week 3 — with one exception. The Packers are being picked by “us” but the New Orleans Saints are actually favored by a field goal in their own house.

While it makes sense that the home team would be slightly favored when teams are largely on equal ground, but I find it quite difficult to say that about the Saints and Packers. Brees has struggled to look like himself in the first two weeks of the season, while Rodgers has thrown for nearly 600 yards thus far, and has 6 touchdowns with no interceptions with a 68 percent completion rate.

I’m going with the SB Nation pick for this one, Packers over Saints.
