Edelstein: It's exciting to get back to arts events - Your Valley

By Merrill Edelstein

There is a light at the end of this tunnel. 2020 has been the most challenging year of our lives (at least most of us anyway). It is my hope that this finds everyone well and getting back to some sense of normalcy.

For me, September brings great news for Arts HQ. We officially reopened on Sept. 10 with our first reception of the season on Friday, Sept. 18. The West Valley Arts Council has seen many changes and I’m excited to share this news with you. Under the direction of Sandra Bassett, we can look forward to a return of some of our signature special events as well as new and innovative exhibits.

As always, I am thrilled to be a part of this growing vibrant and connected arts and cultural community. To begin with, please RSVP to join us on Sept. 18 from 5-8 p.m. for our opening night reception.

In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, attendance will be limited so reservations are necessary. You will be required to wear a mask and we encourage social distancing. Hand sanitizer is available and every effort will be made to ensure you have a safe, enjoyable evening. Come meet our staff Michael, Melody, and Bernie along with all the dedicated volunteers who make things possible.

Check us out on Facebook and Twitter @westvalleyarts, on Instagram @westvalley_arts, or online at westvalleyarts.org. If you have any questions call 623-584-2626.

The gallery is located at 16126 N. Civic Center Plaza, Suite 102. We are directly in front of Surprise City Hall. Hours are Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and  Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission and parking are always free, however donations are always welcome. (hint, hint)

In order to make this a spectacular season please consider volunteering. There are so many ways you can contribute. Feel free to contact Melody to find out more. Her email address is mkokora@westvalleyarts.org.

No matter what you’re interested in, be it performing arts, visual arts, or any combination of mediums, I know you will find your place here. Of course, you owe it to yourself to come see our retail area.

It’s never too early for holiday shopping and it’s always a good time to treat yourself to a very special gift. For all of you who are returning fans of Arts HQ, come say hello and “Tell me I sent you.” For anyone who is reading this for the first time, I can’t wait to meet you.

Editor’s Note: Merrill Edelstein is a volunteer for the West Valley Arts Council.
