Q. I filed a claim for refund of estimated gross income tax for a vacation home that I sold on Jan. 31. I filed the claim on Feb. 8, 2020. The amount of refund is $12,180. How long will it take to get the refund?
— Still waiting
A. You’re experiencing what thousands of others have as the pandemic has continued.
Normal processing for electronically filed forms may take four to six weeks.
The Division of Taxation says returns by mail could take twice that time.
And now, because of the corornavirus, processing times can be even longer than that, said Evan Drury, a chartered financial consultant with U.S. Financial Services in Fairfield.
He said he called one local office and was told they are working with a smaller staff to help control the spread of the virus.
You can check the status of your return here.
Or you can call your regional office. You can get more information about the regional offices here.
