Every fall, the Jersey City Art and Studio Tour is among the most highly anticipated local cultural events, and COVID or no COVID, it is this year as well.
The festivities kicked off Thursday night and continue today and tomorrow for the tour’s 30th anniversary.
While most of the action is virtual, organizers have dipped deep into the creativity well to make 2020′s offerings nonetheless exciting. In fact, because the impressive array of gallery exhibits, demonstrations, performances and talks is offered online, it should expand the tour’s already massive following.
TheJCAST.com has the full schedule along with scores of links to the work of individual artists and group exhibits that showcase and celebrate the rich diversity of artistic work being produced in Jersey City. There’s even a link to help you figure out how to buy the art you see.
Of special note, if you’re able, mask up and head out to self-guided tours listed on the website; the Drawing Rooms' and Jersey City Public Library’s outdoor Prayer Flags project; or a number of "Walk_Bye Live'' events (hosted in conjunction with the Jersey City Parks Coalition) that show off local, international and children’s art at 10 city parks.
A series of "Artivism'' talks, meanwhile, will be presented on Zoom in conjunction with the Jersey City Theater Company to highlight how artists and their art address social justice issues.
Art, tourism and creative perseverance in tough times are essential to Jersey City’s and Hudson County’s character and economy. We encourage our readers to check out this year’s Jersey City Art and Studio Tour to see all three converge.
