Nebraska head coach Scott Frost met with members of the media over video conference on Thursday to discuss the team's readiness for this weekend's matchup against Northwestern.

Frost discussed the challenge Northwestern presents and how important it is that the Huskers execute successfully on Saturday.

"You have to account for their good players and their good scheme, their good coaching," Frost said. "They are sound. They don't give you anything easy, you have to earn it. We just have to execute well. There is no real secret to beating Northwestern. It's just a matter of having fun, playing football and executing and playing a smart game."

He noted the Huskers' eagerness to play Saturday and how the additional week of preparation has affected the team.

"I think we are ready to play. We are prepared, so we are ready," Frost said. "It would have been nice to have another game under our belt. If this was Game 5 or 6, maybe missing a game and having extra time to prepare would be an advantage. We need to play. Its hard to get better as a football team if you're not on the field playing. We missed a bowl game last year unfortunately, so we missed a bunch of practices. We missed spring ball. We are in November and we haven't had a home game yet and this is just Game 2. It's just been unusual circumstances. Our guys are as ready to play as I know how to make them."

He discussed the progress that he has seen from the freshmen wide receivers this season and the impact they could have in the coming weeks.

"I think the young receivers are going a great job coming along," Frost said. "I think Coach (Matt) Lubick is doing a good job bringing them along. The rest of the guys are getting better every day and the older receivers are doing a good job of being good teammates and helping them and teaching them. I think we will have a role for some of those guys hopefully this week or soon after."

Frost also noted the success that the offensive and defensive lines saw in their first test of the season at Ohio State.

"I thought we played solid on both lines even though the score wasn't what we wanted," he said. "I thought we held our own. That was a good, athletic team we played. I was impressed with how we played on both lines. I thought it was a major step forward for us. I was really impressed with some of the young guys on both sides that came in and looked like they belonged. Again, that is where added games will give them more experience and fast track their development. I was pleased with what I saw from the offensive and defensive line."

The Huskers meet the Wildcats in Evanston at 11 a.m. (CT) on Saturday. Television coverage will be provided by BTN and radio coverage by the Husker Sports Network.
