From Michelin-starred Harwood Arms to 500-year-old Prospect of Whitby on the River Thames, London offers a dizzying array of pubs for the keen tippler looking to drink in the local culture.

But visitors don’t generally come to the upscale Connaught Bar for a pint of London Pride. No, the well-heeled apparently flock to this tony hotel watering hole in Mayfair for a $33 Magnetum with perhaps some beluga caviar and crushed avocado on the side.

And, for those with money to burn, the Connaught doesn’t disappoint. In fact, it was just given the top spot on the “World’s 50 Best Bars” list, beating out New York City’s Dante, which drifted down to the second spot, and the Clumsies in Athens, Greece, at No. 3.

Here’s a look at some of the drinks on offer at the Connaught:

While knocking back a few drinks might sound like a grand idea, especially considering the gloomy state of things in 2020, the reality is that, with the United Kingdom’s latest coronavirus restrictions, the Connaught Bar will be closed at least until Dec. 1.

Nevertheless, Agostino Perrone, the Connaught’s director of mixology, said he won’t allow what he does for a living to be “darkened” by the pandemic.

“It’s not an easy life,” he said in a press conference after the award ceremony, according to a report from Bloomberg News. “This year, all of us as a community went through a strange period we’re still going through… You always stand up — chin up.”
