Canton freshman Hudson Ward went 3 for 3 with two doubles and three RBIs as the Warriors erased a five-run fifth-inning deficit and defeated Wellsboro, 7-6. Canton scored three times in the fifth and sixth innings to take the lead and Joel Schoonover (2 for 4) threw 2 2/3 hitless innings to earn the win in relief as Canton improved to 3-0. The Warriors produced 13 hits and Isaac Keane went 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs for Wellsboro.
Playing without 10 players and starting four freshmen, Williamsport dropped its season opener at State College 15-4 in four innings. Freshman Deacon Brown went 2 for 3 for Williamsport and scored a run while Braeden Mazzante and Cayden Robertson each went 1 for 2 with an RBI.
Max Mitchell hit a 3-run home run to fuel a four-run fourth-inning rally which gave Lewisburg a brief lead but Shikellamy rallied and won, 7-5. Josh Heath went 2 for 3 with a double and also threw three shutout innings in relief. Jackson Landis added two hits for the Green Dragons.
In softball, Warrior Run hung with defending District 4 Class AAA champion Bloomsburg early but the Panthers eventually pulled away and won 9-0. Ellen Hull threw a one-hitter.
