The Crusaders men’s soccer team continued their winning streak with a 2-1 game against St. Scholastica on Friday night.

The team started off strong with Karson Pannell (sophomore) scoring a goal in the 6th minute, assisted by Antonio Gachinineiro (sophomore) and Jose Martinez (senior). Chase Reynolds (senior) scored the Crusader’s second goal at the start of the first half, putting the University of Dallas in the lead 2-0.

St. Scholastica’s Ken Pryde put the Saints on the scoreboard in the 87th minute.

The Crusaders pulled off an impressive win after shooting only three times on goal compared to St. Scholastica’s seven. The Saints fought ferociously, attacking freshman goalkeeper Hayden Hampton who had six saves but earned a yellow card in the 88th minute. The game left St. Scholastica with a 2-2-0 record and UD with a 3-0-0.

The game, played at St. Scholastica, is the Crusader’s third win in a row, prompting high hopes for this year’s soccer season. On Monday, September 6, the Crusaders shut out LeTourneau 1-0 in an anxiety-ridden game which saw neither team score until the 84th minute.

UD’s Jose Martinez, assisted by Chase Reynolds, shot a goal from 25 yards out to put the Crusaders in the lead. UD goalkeeper Hayden Hampton was once again under intense fire from the LeTourneau Yellowjackets, but kept them from getting a ball into the back of the net.

Prior to the LeTourneau game, the Crusaders shut out East Texas Baptist University Tigers 2-0 in a brilliant season opener following the cancellation of the Crusader’s first match against Arlington Baptist University.

Ben Utz (freshman) scored two goals late in the game, one in the 76th minute and the other in the 87th minute, to seal the win for the Crusaders. This game marked Hayden Hampton’s collegiate goalkeeper debut, with a shutout and six saves.

With momentum behind them, all eyes turn to the Men’s soccer team as they are set to take on Coe College on Sept. 12. The Crusaders are in the middle of a six-game road trip, with their next home game being on Oct. 1 against Austin College. This impressive start to the season promises an exciting run for the team this year.
