CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.- The Villanova Wildcats remain undefeated at on their home turf after another exciting overtime win concludes against La Salle.

The first quarter was scoreless between the two teams as they battled, they against one another.

The second quarter started to get their momentum going with a goal scored by junior forward #11 Meghan Mitchell (13:50) off a corner assisted by the pair of sophomore midfielders #25 Raina Smolij and #4 Emma Schwarz. Schwarz sent the ball into play and was deflected off of Mitchell's stick into the back of the net.

After halftime, La Salle came out with high energy and shifted into high gear. They found their way on the board in a strong quarter for the Explorers with a goal scored by #21 Zhao Rodrigo (7:56) unassisted.

La Salle followed their first goal with another in the fourth taking the lead 2-1. The Wildcats have thrived in overtime at home throughout the season and have shown real heart on the field. Overtime showed the dominance that we are used to seeing from the Wildcats at home as they had more control over the ball and field.

Only a couple minutes into overtime and the Wildcats were on the offensive with sophomore midfielder #10 Anne Drabbe making her way into the arch. With Drabbe's back facing the goal she slipped the ball through her and her defender's legs and connected with Mitchell's stick. Mitchell then directed the ball into the goal for another Wildcat win.

The Wildcats continue their win streak at home and will return back to the Proving Grounds on October 7 to go head-to-head with Liberty University.

Head coach Joanie Milhous commented on the Wildcat's winning weekend, touching on the effort put forth from her team.

"Really proud of our team today. LaSalle is a very strong team with a very solid defense," said Milhous. "I liked how our team just kept battling and found a way to win. Two big wins this weekend."

Senior captain Shannon Drakeley, who had a defensive save on the day, explained the defensive dynamic between the backs and goalkeeper which were key to both victory's on the weekend.

"Defensively, we played a pretty strong game. There were times of chaos, but then we regrouped and really got ourselves together and we were able to pull it together and have a strong defensive wall back there," said Drakeley. "It starts with our keeper; Emma's playing a great game and really was communicating and helping us organize. So, it all started from behind her. And then coming up to me, Hannah, and Sabine, just really communicating and working together to put it into play and get the ball out of there"

Mitchell who scored two of the three goals on the day, including the game winner, spoke about the win and how the Wildcats were able to adjust throughout the game to come out with the win.

"I was really proud of our team's effort today. I think it was a very hard-fought game throughout the entire 60 minutes and then going to overtime, I think we continued to play together as a team," said Mitchell. "In overtime we really moved the ball effectively, which allowed us to get on the board quickly. We did a good job playing two touch field hockey, getting the ball quickly up the field. This allowed us to create a lot of 2v1's that helped us to beat our defenders. Amanda and McKenna both sent a nice ball in the circle. So I just tried to get in front of my defender and do my job to finish."

The Wildcats jump back on the road to face off against the Monarchs of Old Dominion University on Friday Sep. 30. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
