My baby, Emily, who has lived in Colorado for the last five or so years, is moving back to Georgia. She and her husband, C.J. decided it was time, and started looking for jobs. She is a registered nurse who has worked in the emergency room setting almost from the beginning, as that was her first choice.
She started looking, and lo and behold, Athens Regional had an opening in its emergency room. Just 60 miles away from me, rather than 2,000.
Of course, when Emily lived in Newnan, we found that we didn™t visit very often, even though it was only an hour and a half drive. We would occasionally meet in the middle for lunch, then return to our separate homes. I have a feeling after our long separation those lunches will be more frequent.
And, we have both matured a bit. Not that I needed maturity, but Emily was still fairly young.
Now, to start with, it was difficult at best to house-hunt from Colorado, so we decided it would be wise if she and C.J., along with their three dogs, stayed with us until they could find a good place of their own a bit closer to Athens.
C.J. is a chef, and will also be seeking employment in the Athens area. Emily begins work in Athens later this month, and they will arrive at our home on a Thursday (probably) before she begins work on Monday. They plan to put their stuff in storage rather than trying to squeeze it all in our basement. So, they, along with help from her cousin and his father, as well as a friend, will embark on a long journey from Loveland, Colo. to middle Georgia.
They have been looking at homes via the internet, and are leaning towards the outskirts of Athens, maybe more like Monroe, where her mom won™t mind driving so much.
An aside here”I™ve been in Monticello my entire adult life. Rarely do I go to the big city of Atlanta, and generally if I do it™s with someone who prefers to drive, so I ride. I am now not very comfortable driving in traffic.
When my daddy was in the hospital, I managed to drive to and through Atlanta to Northside Hospital several times a week. I was scared the first time. And, I suppose if necessity arose I could do it again. But, that™s been nine years, and I™ve aged...and I™m certain the traffic is even worse.
So, Emily is thinking of me, and planning to locate a little out from the city. Plus, from what she has seen on the internet, she can probably get a little more house outside Athens than she would be able to get in Athens proper.
So, all those details will be worked out in due time. Hopefully not a real long time. C.J. is anxious to get to work, and they are both anxious to be in their own home. We love them a lot, and they love us, a lot, but three dogs and two more humans when we™re used to just two old folks in the house will be an adjustment.
Right now, I™m so excited about the Å“adjustment” I can hardly stand it. I love having my children around. I am so blessed that Hannah just lives down the street. Because she is working from home during this awful pandemic, I am able to see her and my beautiful granddaughter several times a week.
I probably won™t see a lot of Emily. After orientation she™ll be working 3 p.m. to 3 a.m., I believe...and I don™t relish her driving from Athens to my house after those long night on a long, desolate road. But, at first, during orientation we may actually dine together at least some evenings.
No matter...she will be physically much closer, and I couldn™t be happier about that.
