The Miz has been cheered. He’s been jeered. He’s been laughed at. He’s been celebrated. A mainstay on the WWE roster since 2006, The Miz boasts a list of accomplishments as long as he holds out the word “Awesome” before his entrance music hits and he struts down the ramp toward the ring.
WWE superstars have a unique connection with fans who comprise the WWE Universe, feeding off their support as much as their opposition. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, The Miz and the rest of the locker room hasn’t been able to benefit from the WWE Universe since March 2020 when live audiences were suspended indefinitely.
More than a year later, though, WWE will welcome approximately 25,000 fans for WrestleMania 37 on April 10 and 11 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.
“I love and miss our loyal WWE Universe,” The Miz said. “Our fans are absolutely incredible and to have them live and there with their energy and their electricity and involvement—booing who they hate, cheering who they love—you miss that. WWE has done a great job with the ThunderDome and a virtual audience and I think a lot of other shows have taken what WWE has succeeded at and used it for their benefit.
“WWE has done a great job making it feel like a live crowd, but let’s be honest, there’s nothing like a live audience and I can’t wait to see them for the first time in over a year at WrestleMania.”
The two-night event this weekend takes place at the same location of Super Bowl LV, which hosted 24,835 fans on February 7 to see the hometown Tampa Bay Buccaneers win their second Vince Lombardi Trophy. WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon said WWE has the benefit of following in the NFL’s footsteps working with local organizations to ensure the health and safety of superstars, personnel and fans.
On Saturday evening, The Miz and John Morrison square off against Bad Bunny and Damian Priest in a tag team match. The Grammy-winning recording artist made his WWE debut at the Royal Rumble in January, starting a rivalry with the self-proclaimed A-Lister. After an exchange of guitar shots, Miz and Morrison escalated the situation by “detailing” Bad Bunny’s $3 million Bugatti with red paint.
“Honestly, I want to make a (WrestleMania) moment for Bad Bunny,” The Miz said. “It’s not going to be a great moment for him, it’s going to be a great moment for me. Ever since the beginning of WrestleMania we’ve always had celebrities who want to be a part of WWE. Some people want to do performances, which I always recommend, but whenever you get in the ring with me, I’m going to give my all. I’m a two-time Grand Slam champion for a reason.
“It’s not going to end up well for him.”
When he isn’t on Monday Night Raw trying to get the last laugh at Bad Bunny’s expense, The Miz is one of the stars of Snickers’ latest campaign, which also features WWE superstars Xavier Woods, Big E and King Corbin. Snickers, the presenting partner of WrestleMania for the sixth consecutive year, also released limited-edition Hunger bars featuring the catchphrases of superstars Roman Reigns, Sasha Banks, Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss, and, of course, The Miz.
“Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d do a commercial, let alone have a Snickers bar dedicated to me,” The Miz said. “You can go to Dollar General and you can buy a Snickers that says ‘Awesome.’ My catchphrase is ‘I’m The Miz, and I’m awesome,’ and now there’s a Snickers bar dedicated to me that I can buy. It’s incredible.”
While The Miz may be gaga for his custom candy bar, having a sense of normalcy at WrestleMania with fans back in the stands can’t be bought.
“WrestleMania, he said, “is going to be absolute insanity.”
