HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - For a large part of the area, dry weather is expected for the next two or so days. There is a slight chance of a few showers or isolated thunderstorms redeveloping today in far Eastern Nebraska. Otherwise, partly to mostly cloudy skies this morning will become partly to mostly sunny as the day goes on. A cold front pushing southeast, through the southeast parts of the area will lead to a struggle in temperatures for most. For those that do climb a bit this morning ahead of the front, temperatures will drop this afternoon. Official highs today will range from the upper 40s northwest to the lower 70s southeast. Winds behind the front will be quite blustery out of the north northwest at 15 to 25 mph with gusts at times over 30 mph.
Winds will take their time lightening up overnight. Clouds will gradually fill back in through the night. Despite some of those clouds around, it will be a chilly one for late May. Lows will range from the upper 30s northwest to the mid 40s in the southeast. Like today, tomorrow will start mostly cloudy, but there will be decreasing clouds through the day. Winds won’t be as strong, but may become breezy for those that live closer to the Colorado border. Highs on Friday will range from the upper 50s northeast to the upper 60s southwest. Lows Friday night will drop back down into the 40s as clouds move in from the west.
Rain showers begin to move back into the area on Saturday with the greater chances over northwestern parts of the Local4 viewing area. The farther southeast you go, the lower chance you have of getting rain. This could actually mean that Saturday might be the nicest day of the upcoming 3-day holiday weekend. Winds may be a bit breezy out of the south southeast. Highs on Saturday will mostly be in the 60s with the coolest temperatures in the northwest with the better chance of rain.
The showers and isolated thunderstorms will then spread to more of the area Saturday night into Sunday. This will lead to a prolonged stretch of wet weather Sunday through Monday. The best chance of this more widespread rain will be across Southern Nebraska and Northern Kansas will lower chances during this time in Northern Nebraska. By Monday night, showers will start to to clear out to the southeast. With isolated thunderstorms are possible, severe weather is unlikely. Quite a bit of rainfall could be on the way with many possible seeing 1 to 3 inches of rain during this time. Temperatures will continue to remain cool through the weekend. Highs on Sunday will mostly be in the low to mid 60s. There may be some upper 60s in the north and east. Highs on Monday will range from the mid 60s south to the lower 70s north.
More sunshine returns on Tuesday with highs back into the low to mid 70s. A few scattered showers will be possible on Wednesday. Highs will continue to be in the low to mid 70s. Beyond Wednesday, a continued warming trend is anticipated heading to the end of next week.
