CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Casper Horseheads were unable to have a season during the summer of 2020 because of COVID-19. There’s a buzz in the air at Mike Lansing Field for this summer’s return.
The Horseheads start the season on the road May 25th, but the home opener at Mike Lansing Field is May 28th.
Horseheads’ co-owner Chuck Heeman said he’s excited to see the fans again. “We handle what we do at the ballpark and to get those people back and really reconnect with them is the best part of the whole thing,” said Heeman in an interview at Mike Lansing Field over the weekend.
Casper will also host the Expedition League’s best players for the league’s All-Star Game on July 19-20.
Heeman said there’s going to be a lot packed into those two days. “We have a fireworks show to cap it off,” said Heeman. “The game itself, a home run derby, we’re gonna do an exhibition softball game where some of our All-Star players will get mixed in.”
Hosting the All-Star Game is an honor for Heeman. “The best thing is that you can get so creative with so many things, and people that come in from all over the region and all over the country, so scouts will be here, parents will be here. You get to show them what Casper has to offer.”
The team is also still looking for host families for players and interns.
