Super Exciting!! - tulsakids.com

The kids and I had a fun time as always at this year’s Superhero Challenge. The event benefits Child Abuse Network. This year was the 8th year, and unlike last year, the event was held in-person again. Last year, of course, due to the Coronavirus, the event was virtual. There was a virtual option this year also. More about that and pictures and videos are coming up, as well as a discussion about becoming a foster parent, as my weekly non-profit caters to Oklahoma Fosters. www.OKFosters.org

Here are a couple of things the kids and I did over the weekend:

The more you can create that magic bubble, that suspension of disbelief, for a while, the better.” Edward Norton

And did we ever “suspend disbelief” for a while on Sunday! Wow! Those bubbles were the hit of the party! This past Sunday, my two kids and I ran in the Child Abuse Network’s 8th Superhero Challenge. This year was a bit anxious because of two things, the pandemic and the weather.

Luckily, the weather held off for the most part till the second half of the event. And when it did rain it was light, so the kids still had fun. The attendance seemed to be down a bit but of course, that was to be expected because of those two things. This year there was still a virtual option to register for the race. I do not know the numbers for that, so hopefully, that helped the overall attendance.

We have all been through so much anxiety during this pandemic, but some children have also experienced child abuse. Please help by donating money, stuffed animals, etc.:

We had so much fun Sunday with Child Abuse Network and on Saturday with Reading Partners!

Saturday my two kids (plus one neighborhood kid) jumped in the car and headed to a coffee shop I’ve never been too. First, I love trying new places. Second, I love seeing new parts of Tulsa, and third, of course, I like to involve my kids in anything philanthropic that I do, so Saturday’s event with Reading Partners did all that!

Fulton Street Books & Coffee was the place. Here is their link:</p

Literature and Lattes! What a great combination. Stop by Fulton Street Books & Coffee for a wonderful experience with wonderful people whose mission is to help increase literacy in Tulsa. They are in north Tulsa on Latimer between Denver and Main. 210 W Latimer St, Tulsa, OK 74106

Thanks so much to them for hosting this event. Along with Waffle That! food truck, several children’s authors and fun kids’ music from Hot Toast Music Co., we had a super fun day. I got together with my favorite local kids’ author (and editor of TulsaKids Magazine!), Betty Casey to read one of her books, “May Finds Her Way.” Betty has awesome, huge poster boards of different pages in the book, so it’s a great visual aid for little ones who are a bit fidgety and for parents who stood in the back.

Oklahoma Fosters

www.OKFosters.org is the website for Oklahoma Fosters, which is the non-profit organization I chose to partner with this week. They are an organization that helps prospective foster parents navigate through the foster care process.

I just recently talked to a friend who, years ago, as a single working woman, decided to adopt 3 siblings. Can you imagine?! Going from single person to a family of 4. She told me, as scared as she was to do it, she was so very happy she made that commitment. Now she’s a grandmother!

This is from their Facebook page. (4) Oklahoma Fosters | Facebook

“May is National Foster Care Month and this year’s virtual walk is a chance for everyone to get outside and move in their favorite way! Take your family outdoors for a walk/jog/run on your favorite neighborhood path or hiking trail to bring foster care awareness to your community.”
