Before Warriors games return to the Chase Center in October, the arena’s brand new culinary director has been tasked with reinvigorating the already impressive food options.
The new chef in charge is Chad Neuman, who is going to oversee the arena’s 36 eateries and catering offerings. A native of Puerto Rico, Neuman brings fine dining experience to the stadium from cooking at luxury Ritz-Carlton hotels in Puerto Rico and Malaysia.
While he couldn’t reveal specifics on too many of his plans, Neuman shared a number of changes he plans to bring to the Chase Center. Here are 5 for fans to look forward to:
1. A new concept devoted to wok-cooked wings: Neuman is adding a second menu to Dumpling Time’s Paper Lantern kiosk called Wings & Woks. It’ll focus on a rotating mix of Asian-leaning chicken wings, including Filipino adobo, spicy Korean and Thai panang curry. Unlike fried or baked wings, these will be cooked in a series of woks. “The fire of the wok will make a big difference,” he said.
2. More vegan options: The Chase Center already offers a plant-based option at every concession stand, but Neuman said he plans to add even more for the next season. Wings & Woks, for example, will switch off between a sweet crispy tofu dish and mushroom-smoked tofu sisig. “This is all about what’s trending and how to do it healthier,” Neuman said.
3. Ice cream inspired by Steph Curry: Neuman is cooking up another new concept called Room for Dessert, which will begin as a collaboration with Peninsula small batch ice cream spot Tin Pot Creamery. The menu is still in development, but Neuman said fans can expect a popcorn ice cream flavor inspired by the giant popcorn cake Chase Center pastry chef Bianca Montijo made for Curry’s birthday. Curry is a noted popcorn lover.
4. A Dodger Dog equivalent for the Warriors: No, the Chase Center isn’t going to start serving Dodger Dogs, but the arena is working on a new signature item with the goal to make it synonmous with the Warriors — like the 10-inch hot dog is for the Dodgers. Fans will have a chance to vote for the winner from several options Neuman is currently developing.
5. A greater emphasis on reducing waste: While fans shouldn’t expect to see the Chase Center switch to reusable containers for food anytime soon, Neuman said the arena will continue to work toward reducing food waste in the kitchen behind the scenes. The arena already donates excess ingredients, but this next season should see more movement.
