TOP STORY: City willing to wait for Kane's decision

The Harry Kane saga could go down to the wire with reports claiming that Manchester City are optimistic of getting a deal over the line to bring in the Tottenham Hotspur star.

The Mirror writes that Pep Guardiola's side are prepared to wait until the end of the transfer window on August 31, with the hope that Kane's desire to leave will prove significant in Spurs chairman Daniel Levy's decision. The 27-year-old previously said that he wanted a new challenge, but the response of Levy so far has been that Kane is not available. The Mail on Sunday, meanwhile, reports that Tottenham owner Joe Lewis is unhappy with the way that Kane has tried to engineer a move out of the club.

City are reportedly prepared to pay a £100 million transfer fee for the England captain and could also include players in a swap deal to help reach an agreement with Spurs.

Meanwhile, Sunday Telegraph reports that Kane will miss the clash between Tottenham and Manchester City on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, no matter which club he is playing for at that time. The report claims that the striker will still be working on his fitness, along with several other players who reached the Euro 2020 final on July 11 and therefore began their summer break much later.

Nedum Onuoha comments on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signing a new three-year deal with Man United.

14.55 BST: Barcelona's drive to reduce their wage bill has hit a significant obstacle as they struggle to make room to register their new signings and Lionel Messi's new contract, various sources told ESPN's Sam Marsden and Moises Llorens.

The club must reduce their outgoings to ensure they comply with La Liga's spending limits next season. If they can't, they risk not being able to register Messi's new contract or new signings Memphis Depay, Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia and Emerson Royal.

Barca have until the end of the transfer window on Aug. 31 to submit Messi's deal and their new signings to La Liga, but internally they want everything resolved before Aug. 15, when they kick off their league season at home to Real Sociedad. League president Javier Tebas has said he will not relax the rules for Barcelona, and a failure to get their finances in order could see Messi, if he signs the five-year deal revealed by ESPN last week, unable to play until at least January, as happened with Getafe midfielder Pedro Leon in 2014.

14.11 BST: Juventus vice-president Pavel Nedved has confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo will join the team in preseason on Monday and will honour his contract.

Ronaldo, 36, has one year left on his contract signed when he joined the Turin giants from Real Madrid in the summer of 2018. Sources told ESPN that his representatives were gauging interest from some of Europe's top clubs.

"Cristiano Ronaldo will come back on Monday [July] 26 and will stay with us," Nedved said.

Nedved, meanwhile, said the Bianconeri are working on new deals for Paulo Dybala and Giorgio Chiellini. Dybala, 27, becomes a free agent this summer and the Argentinian forward has been a reported target of Barcelona in past transfer windows. Chiellini, 36, was key in helping Italy win Euro 2020. His contract expired last month but he is expected to remain at the club for at least next season.

"[Juventus sporting director] Federico Cherubini is in contract with Dybala's agent, who will arrive to Turin in the next few days," Nedved added. "Chiellini is currently on holiday. Let's give him some time to recover and then we will talk calmly about his renewal."

13.30 BST: Manchester United and Paul Pogba are still in discussions over a new contract, according to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Pogba has entered the final year of his deal at Old Trafford and has been the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain. If the club cannot agree fresh terms with the France international, he will be able to walk away for free next summer after also leaving United at the end of his contract when he moved to Juventus in 2012.

"Talks are ongoing between Paul's representatives and the club representatives," Solskjaer said, following a 4-2 preseason defeat to QPR on Saturday.

"All the dialogue I've had with Paul is that he's looking forward to the season. There's always speculation about Paul, the talks between the club and Paul's representatives, I don't know every detail of every single one of them. I've not got anything to say really about that.

"There's always clubs being interested and of course we've seen Paul at his best and Paul knows what we feel about it and I've enjoyed my time working with him and hopefully we can work together."

12.44 BST: Manchester City are set to offer defender Ruben Dias a new contract, just one year after he joind the club, according to the Daily Star Sunday.

Dias, 24, signed a six-year deal when he joined the club from Benfica last summer in a £61m move. The Portugal international went to make 49 appearances, helping City to win the Premier League title and reach the Champions League final, and he was named the Football Writers' Association's Player of the Year.

The Daily Star Sunday reports that Dias is set to almost double his money with the new deal, taking his wages up to £140,000 a week.

12.05 BST: Arsenal are close to announcing the signing of Ben White from Brighton & Hove Albion as the defender undergoes his medical this weekend, the Mail on Sunday reports.

White has just returned from his summer break following England's run to the Euro 2020 final, although he did not feature at all during the tournament.

The 23-year-old is set to join the Gunners for a £50m transfer fee, taking the place vacated by David Luiz's departure at the end of last season.

11.36 BST: The return of coach Carlo Ancelotti to Real Madrid has not changed the club's position regarding Isco, AS reports.

The Spanish midfielder, who had limited playing time under Zinedine Zidane in recent seasons, is widely expected to leave the club this summer, despite being a key player for Ancelotti during Ancelotti's first stint at the club when they won the 2013-14 Champions League.

Isco becomes a free agent in June 2022 and Los Blancos have no intention to offer him a new contract.

The 29-year-old playmaker started in only 10 games in all competitions last season and is open to leave the Bernabeu this summer in search of regular playing time.

10.59 BST: Toby Alderweireld is set to leave Tottenham Hotspur as the defender is in talks with Qatari club Al-Duhail, The Sunday Times reports.

Alderweireld has made 236 appearances for Spurs since signing for them from Atletico Madrid in 2015. However, last season he lost his status as an automatic first-choice centre-back under former coach Jose Mourinho, and now new boss Nuno Espirito Santo has reportedly sanctioned the 32-year-old's exit.

The Times reports that the Belgium international is now in discussions over making the £13m transfer.

10.26 BST: Sergio Romero is attracting interest from Chelsea and Juventus following his departure from Manchester United, sources told ESPN's Rob Dawson.

The goalkeeper has been training in Argentina while he sorts out his next move after leaving Old Trafford this summer at the end of his contract. The 34-year-old made 61 appearances in six years at Old Trafford.

European heavyweights Chelsea and Juventus are among a number of clubs to have registered their interest in the Argentina international. Spanish side Granada are also monitoring his situation. Contrary to rumours, sources told ESPN there has not been contact with Leeds United, while a potential move to Everton is viewed as unlikely after they signed 34-year-old Asmir Begovic on a free transfer from Bournemouth.

Despite Romero's exit, United still have four senior goalkeepers on their books. United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has sanctioned the arrival of Tom Heaton this summer while also handing Lee Grant a new one-year contract. Last season, David De Gea and Dean Henderson competed for the No.1 shirt.

09.48 BST: Roma are on the verge of signing Uruguay left-back Matias Vina from Palmeiras, according to Sky.

Vina, who has a contract with Palmeiras until June 2024, is expected to arrive in the Italian capital today to undergo a medical.

The 23-year-old has made 69 appearances for Palmeiras since joining the club in January 2020 from Nacional. He has represented Uruguay 16 times, including starting in all of the Celeste's games at the recent Copa America.

A versatile player, who can play in defence as well as midfield, Vina is considered the ideal replacement for injured Leonardo Spinazzola. Spinazzola suffered an Achilles tendon injury during Euro 2020 and will be out of action until 2022.

Vina will become Roma's second summer signing following the arrival of Portugal goalkeeper Rui Patricio earlier this month.

09.00 BST: Liverpool midfielder Harry Wilson completed his transfer to Fulham last night for a reported £10m fee.

The Wales international, 24, scored 32 goals over the last three seasons across loan spells at Derby County, Bournemouth and Cardiff City.

However, he has been unable to convince manager Jurgen Klopp that he deserves to fight for a place in the first team at Anfield, and ion Saturday evening completed a move to Craven Cottage.

Fulham, relegated to the Championship last term after one season back in the Premier League, also announced the signing of goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga from Tottenham on Saturday.

- Antoine Griezmann's future could be more clear with reports suggesting that the France international has told Barcelona he would like to join Juventus. That's according to Calciomercato, who say that the Serie A club have already contacted the 30-year-old over a potential move. The Blaugrana have been active in looking to offload Griezmann this summer as the club try to make space on the wage bill for the renewal of Lionel Messi's contract.

- AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho could target Paris Saint-Germain's Mauro Icardi as a replacement for Edin Dzeko, writes Calciomercato. The report says that the striker is at the top of Roma's shortlist as the club continue to search the market for a frontman. The 28-year-old scored 12 goals in 24 appearances last season while also managing to register three assists across all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino's side.

- The Daily Star reports that Manchester United are keen to move Anthony Martial on after completing the signing of Jadon Sancho. The report claims that Ole Gunnar Solksjaer's side seek a £50m transfer fee for the French forward who currently earns £250,000 per week. Spurs are interested in the 25-year-old, but it's unclear whether Nuno Espirito Santo's side would be willing to match the valuation.

- Timo Werner could be set for a move back to the Bundesliga with reports that there is concrete interest from Bayern Munich. Football Insider writes that Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann is a fan of the 25-year-old and that Chelsea would be open to the transfer of the ex-RB Leipzig man who didn't make the impact that was expected of him last season, registering just six goals in the Premier League from 35 appearances.

- Northampton Town's Caleb Chukwuemeka is attracting more interest from clubs around Europe with Spurs this time interested in a move for the prospect. Football Insider writes that the Premier League club are planning a swap deal that would see the 19-year-old move to North London. The teenager made 28 appearances after breaking into the first team last season.

- Fichajes journalist Ekrem Konur says Celtic have made an approach for Antwerp's Aurelio Buta. The offer is reported to be €2.5m, which is €1m shy of the Belgian club's valuation. The right-sided player is believed to be a high priority for new manager Ange Postecoglou who took over at Celtic Park this summer.
