When Guests visit Walt Disney World Resort, there is always so much to do!
From visiting Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios to Resort hopping, enjoying all of the delicious dining options, Resort pools, and so much more; you will never run of things to do. For those who are maybe looking to do something a little out of the ordinary, there is a secret bar that you can head to, which will give you memories for years to come.
At Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto lies in one of the hotel’s hallways. There is signage to alert Guests of its whereabouts, but with no windows and only one single door, the bar feels like a speak-easy. Trader Sam’s allows Guests to enjoy an immersive bar experience where volcanos erupt, curses are made, drinks pop out of clams, and Cast Members chant! It truly is an amazing experience, and Guests love it.
Trader Sam’s remained closed for quite some time during the pandemic but has since reopened to immense popularity. Since Guests cannot make a reservation at the bar, they must put their name on a waiting list in person when at the Resort. This may seem easy enough, except for the fact that you will be waiting around for hours. Since Trader Sam’s reopened, the waitlist (especially during evenings) has been massive. Personally, I have put my name in six hours in advance in the past and was able to enter the location around 11:30 p.m.
Last night, there were 72 parties on the waitlist by 5:00 p.m.! The wait times that were being quoted were between 4-5 hours; however, entry was not a guarantee. If you put your name on the waitlist, you will receive a text message when it is your time to check-in. My recommendation for those looking to enjoy an Uh-Oa, or any other delicious drink at Trader Sam’s is to get there when it opens. Trader Sam’s hours of operation are currently 3:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., and if you arrive at 3:00 p.m. you may be able to either enter right away or if there is already a line, you will be one of the first on the waitlist.
As you can see from yesterday evening’s experience, waiting a few hours could put you behind by over 70 parties. If you are a Guest who is not staying at the Polynesian, arriving early is especially recommended, or else you will be waiting around for quite some time. Of course, there may be times where entering Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto will be a breeze. You can always call the location before arriving to see what the wait times are looking like before tracking to the hotel!

If the indoor bar is full, right outside is a terrace with Happily Ever After (and soon, Disney Enchantment) firework views for you to enjoy; seating is often open and is first-come, first-serve, and offers the same drinks as the indoor bar.
