Dear Paris 95 Families and Community,
For the past several weeks, a lot of work has been going on behind the scenes at Paris Union School District No. 95. The school administration has been hosting regular meetings with state officials and meeting with our local healthcare providers to develop systems to best support our students and community. Today we have a special announcement for our students, teachers, families, and community. Paris 95 has been approved and funded by the Illinois Department of Public Health as an official School Health Center! Starting this summer Paris 95 will begin receiving grant funds to serve our students through a school-based healthcare plan.
School-based healthcare centers are exactly what the name implies. We will be able to provide healthcare services in the school directly to the student with parental permission. Students can receive routine medical exams, physical exams for school or sports, treatment for acute illness, immunizations, mental health services/referrals, and the list goes on. Paris Union School District No. 95 will employ their own nurse practioners and support staff to provide these direct services to students.
There are 64 school health centers in the state of Illinois, and only 18 exist outside of Cook County. Paris 95 is excited to become the next school health center to serve our students. Over the next few months, Paris 95 will be busy finalizing plans, working with IDPH to ensure we meet all guidelines before our opening day, and recruiting and hiring healthcare employees. Our goal will be to continue to work with local organizations to support this project and align services and communication channels.
The School Health Center grant places Paris Union School District No. 95 at a total competitive grant funding of 5.6 million dollars since July 1, 2021. The pandemic has caused an increase in funding at the federal level of the government which flow-through to state agencies to provide grant opportunities to local organizations. I am proud of the work of the Paris 95 administration to seek out and actively compete for these dollars. Rather than watching dollars go to other communities, we are locally providing services to our students, creating jobs, and spurring our local economy.
There is a lot of work that goes into not only writing a grant, but carrying out a grant. Most recently, our 21st Century Learning Grant has employed over 20 individuals at $31.46/hour, provided over 150 students after-school learning opportunities, and paid out over $22,000 directly to businesses to support after-school camps for students. Good things are happening in Paris Union School District No. 95. I want to personally thank the Paris 95 administrators, faculty, support staff, and Board of Education for their continued support of these projects and an endless quest to be the best school possible for our students and community. I cannot wait to see what comes next.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jeremy Larson, MBA
Superintendent of Schools
