This story contains spoilers from season 5 of Cobra Kai.
Cobra Kai fans, you may want to get back to practicing your karate skills. Season 5 may have landed on Netflix in September, but viewers are already itching to get back into the dojo for season 6. While there hasn't been any word from the streamer, Cobra Kai cast member Ralph Macchio (a.k.a. The Karate Kid himself) just teased the show's future.
In a recent interview with Us Weekly, he was asked whether Cobra Kai was getting renewed for a season 6. While he admitted he didn't know too much about the status of the hit drama, he did say the cast and crew have a good hunch they'll get good news very soon.
"It hasn’t officially been picked up. I need to say that because that is the truth," Ralph told the outlet. "[But] we’re feeling pretty good that we’ll get to continue the show and let it evolve and land when it needs to."
While it's not a confirmation, at least it's something for everyone to hold on to! But what else could there be in store should a new season happen? As Ralph continued relaying to Us Weekly, the direction for season 6 might be led by fans' feedback to the writers' room.
"These guys, Jon [Hurwitz], Josh [Heald] and Hayden [Schlossberg], who write this show, are just so great at [having] their finger on the pulse of what the fans want," he told the magazine. "They are the fans themselves ... There’s more meat on the bones there. But it’s gotta be entertaining and organic and I think there’s plenty of places to go every season."
If that's any indication, then there's still a lot of "wax on, wax off" to do for Daniel LaRusso, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and their karate students.
As folks are aware, Cobra Kai season 5 ended with quite a few cliffhangers. John Kreese (Martin Kove) escaped prison and now, he's out for blood. Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) finally got his comeuppance, thanks to Daniel and his ever-famous crane kick. The teens from both Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai finally settled their score, with peace finally coming back to the Valley after Johnny decided to resurrect his old karate dojo.
That being said, there's always room to explore new storylines. Coupled with the fact that Cobra Kai loves to bring back characters from the movie franchise it's entrenched in, fans never know what they could be dealt next.
"We have more story to tell; we’re still figuring out the specifics of that," Jon Hurwitz told Variety in September. "There’s plenty in store, lots of thoughts going forward. There’s a lot we want to do with these characters and we’re giddy about that next step."
