One Disney World Attraction Had a 6-HOUR WAIT Over the Weekend, and It's Not Even a New Ride - Disney Dining

jarangoyange.blogspot.com

For Guests at Walt Disney World, it’s not uncommon to wait in line for an attraction much longer than desired, especially for Guests who opt out of the Genie+ and Lightning Lane add-ons. But one attraction at Disney World had ridiculously long wait times, and the ride itself has been around for a few years now.

There are some Disney attractions that seem to never have a long wait time in the queue, but whether you’re a frequent visitor to the parks at Walt Disney World or a fan who visits once every two or three years, you know that waiting in line to experience many of the rides and attractions at the four theme parks is largely a necessary evil. No one wants to wait in a line of any length, and sometimes when the lines get long, Guests show off their true colors.

Guests sometimes become irritable as they wait, especially if they’re waiting in the Central Florida heat and humidity. Some are rude to Cast Members and fellow Guests, and some vent their frustrations by making (loud) observations about the obvious scenario in which they and other Guests find themselves.

Even Guests who don’t cause a scene or draw attention to themselves find waiting in a long line at Disney World a major test of patience.

Because of the prevalence of long wait times in the lines for attractions, some Guests who have a medical condition or disability that precludes them from being able to tolerate a long wait in line are able to secure a Disability Access Services (DAS) pass that virtually holds a place in line for them and assigns a time for them to approach the queue kiosk so they can experience the attraction.

Sadly, the DAS has been grossly abused over the years.

On Friday, just as the kickoff to the weekend was approaching, one attraction at Disney World had such a long wait time in the queue that Guests who chose to stand in the line could have easily whittled away at more than half of their time in the parks. (Yes, half!) And the craziest part of the story is that the ride isn’t even a brand-new one.

According to a tweet from Disney Park Tweets (@WDWoutloud), wait times for the Rise of the Resistance attraction inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios had a wait time of 420 minutes. Four hundred and twenty minutes!

The tweet features a screengrab image from the My Disney Experience app on Friday, which shows a 420-minute wait for Guests wanting to experience the Rise of the Resistance attraction. As seen in the image, wait times for nearby attractions at Hollywood Studios ranged from 10 minutes to 85 minutes, but the Star Wars experience had them all beat–and by a huge margin.

Such a wait time translates to six hours in the queue, and Disney fans and non-fans alike had plenty to say in response to the tweet about the long wait, many of them venting their own frustrations about Disney’s inability to manage crowds in the parks.

One user tweeted, “This is absolutely disgusting. Whatever Disney is doing to ‘crowd manage’ is NOT working.”

Another user said it’s part of Disney’s customer service mantra, referring to the parks’ perceived inability to effectively manage crowds.

“Crowd control has come to charge more money, make waits longer, have apps crash, and take away from the experience,” reads one tweet. “Pretty sure this is their customer service mantra now.”

According to other users on the social media platform, wait times decreased to 110 minutes later in the day, and a Guest in the parks that day also tweeted, saying that Rise of the Resistance was one of several fan-favorite attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios that went down for a while on Friday.

Is it possible that a problem with the ride’s operational mechanisms led to the breakdown of the attraction–and to the abnormally long wait times? Sure, it’s a possibility, but there’s no official word about what led to such a long wait time for the Star Wars-themed attraction, which, in many fans’ opinions, is worth the wait–maybe not that six-hour wait, but definitely worth the wait.

If you haven’t experienced the Rise of the Resistance attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you’re missing out (and that’s coming from this writer who does not consider herself to be a Star Wars junkie). Disney World’s website says it best:

The Resistance needs your help! Hidden in the forest outside Black Spire Outpost, the Resistance is gathering recruits for a secret mission.

With the First Order desperate to extinguish the spark of the Resistance, the mission is bound to have unexpected twists and turns. When your transport is captured by an imposing First Order Star Destroyer filled with legions of stormtroopers—and even Kylo Ren!—you’re going to need all the help you can get. Fortunately, a covert team of Resistance fighters—including Rey and BB-8—is at the ready to give you a fighting chance to escape… and a chance for the Resistance to rise.

Prepare for a thrilling, first-of-its-kind adventure!

The ride is one you won’t soon forget. That is, if you can experience it without first sacrificing half of your park day in the queue!
