I’m amazed at just how much is always happening in Birmingham. From mouth-watering cookies and candy to a new park perfect for walks, read on to learn about what’s now open and coming soon to The Magic City.

1. Crumbl Cookies | Lane Parke

I am absolutely PUMPED for this opening in Mountain Brook later this year. Crumbl Cookies is coming to town, so I’ll be filling a glass of milk in anticipation of a warm, sweet cookie. What’s unique about this spot is the menu is constantly changing—each week you can try a different type of cookie out of 200 rotating flavors. You bet I’m running to the store if I spy snickerdoodles on the menu.

2. Double Oak Park | Shelby County

A 750-acre park just opened in Shelby County and it’s a perfect spot to take a fall hike. Double Oak Park—nestled between Dunnavant Valley Road and Bear Creek Road—is home to so many outdoor adventures, including:

  • A picnic pavilion
  • Hiking trails
  • Horseback trails
  • Mountain bike trails
  • Restrooms

“The park consists of 750 acres of the tail end of the Appalachian Mountain chain in Shelby County just outside of Chelsea on County Road 43. We are excited to offer this pristine piece of the outdoors so close to residential areas and employment centers on Highway 280.”

Chad Scroggins, County Manager, Shelby County

3. Camp Bow Wow | Hoover

The paw-fect place for your furry friends, Camp Bow Wow in Hoover, just opened last week. With over 200 locations across the country, they’re experts at taking care of our four-legged pals, including:

You don’t need to worry about your pets when they stay at Camp Bow Wow. This A+ doggy daycare and boarding provider has certified camp counselors who are extensively trained in dog behavior, pet first aid and CPR. There’ll be plenty of wagging tails here.

4. The Lion’s Den Mobile Lounge

We found the coolest ride you can roll to your next party in. According to the Birmingham Business Journal, owner Chris South bought the school bus off eBay and refurbished it to be flashy and fun for private parties, weddings and more. There are cigars and liquor stocked on board, so just show up with your crew and get ready for the best night out on the town.

5. Birmingham Candy Company | Crestline Village

If you have a sweet tooth, this candy store coming soon to Crestline Village is just for you. The Birmingham Candy Company recently announced they’ll be opening a second location. They currently are offering their delicious sweets at The Pizitz.

“If you’ve visited our Pizitz location, you’ve more than likely come in contact with one of our superb team members. Their dedication and hard work has allowed us to focus on the bigger picture.

Most importantly, we want to extend our appreciation to our loyal customers (who are more like family really). Your continued support has allowed us to make this dream a reality. Thank YOU!”

Cassie and Wayne Bolden, Owners, Birmingham Candy Company

From candied apples to chocolate-covered Oreos and pralines, you’ll find me stocking up on their scrumptious confectioneries.

6. Velma’s Place Sports Bar & Grill | Trussville

An iconic Trussville business is coming back better than ever. According to the Trussville Tribune, Velma’s Place—a local fan-fave since 1938—is reopening in early 2023 after being closed for a decade. The plan is to keep the iconic restaurant the same—we’ll see the beloved menu again with a few more cocktails on the lineup.

7. Villaggio Colafrancesco | Hwy 280

A new spot with delicious Italian goods just opened in The Magic City. Villaggio Colafrancesco is home to three stores: Old Bridge Gelateria, an Italian Coffee Shop and the Salumeria. From delicious meats and cheeses for your charcuterie board to a warm cappuccino, this is a spot that’s making Rome not feel so far away.

Plus, they’re going old school—there are no laptops or cell phones allowed.
