REMUS – Carl Whipple can’t wait to start his senior football season.

But he’s going to have to.

Whipple was pumped up and ready to go during the first week of football season.

But then came the word from the MHSAA that football season would be played in the spring because of COVID 19.

This will mark his third varsity season. He started as a sophomore on the varsity.

After two days of practice earlier this month, Whipple had high hopes.

“It’s going pretty good,” he said. “We don’t have as much numbers wise but there’s good experience.”

He came into this season with solid credentials.

“Our sophomore year we weren’t the biggest, but we made the playoffs against Freeland,” Whipple said. “My junior year, we just missed out of the playoffs. We had some team issues we had to go through.”

When the season resumes in the spring, Whipple is slated to play left tackle or left guard for the Warriors.

“I have a lot of experience,” he said. “I’ve been doing it since I was a sophomore.”

Whipple feels he’s more effective on defense.

He’s also a top notch wrestler, and after the winter season, he was slated to play baseball. The COVID virus canceled those efforts.

Eventually he got into the football groove and felt things were clicking before the MHSAA made its decision.

“Our seniors this year are the sophomores who all got pulled up together,” Whipple pointed out.

Wrestling is usually a big summer time deal for Whipple and his teammates. Because of restrictions, they were forced to stay at home and work on their own. As it stands now, Whipple will focus on the winter wrestling season and then on football in the spring.
