PSE&G residents and businesses in some parts of New Jersey who lost power after Tropical Storm Isaias may have to wait until Monday before their service is restored, the utility company said Thursday.

“PSE&G expects at least 85% of our customers without power to be restored by Friday night, but some difficult restorations may continue through the weekend – possibly into Monday,” the company said in statement.

PSE&G said while crews are working around the clock, road conditions and more inclement weather has slowed the restoration process.

PSE&G’s outage map showed that some customers in Camden, Middlesex and Mercer counties are not expected to have power restored until Monday.

“When restoring power, crews start with priority customers – such as hospitals, emergency services (police and fire stations), and power facilities – then move on to the circuits serving the largest number of customers,” the company said.

New Jersey’s three major utility companies continued working Thursday to restore power to at least 516,000 homes and businesses whose lights went out Tuesday when Tropical Storm Isaias slammed through the Garden State.

Atlantic City Electric said service for most of its customers will be restored by end of day Thursday, and the company expects all of its customers – including those in the most heavily damaged areas – to have their service restored by Saturday evening.

JCP&L said on its website that “estimated restoration times will be established as damage assessment progresses.” No further information was given.

Here are the numbers of New Jersey customers without power as of 10:30 a.m. on Thursday:

  • JCP&L: 346,468 of 1,131,724 customers
  • PSE&G: 143,035 of 2,326,730 customers
  • Atlantic City Electric: 29,707 of 545,605 customers

PSE&G also said that it had set up “Customer Comfort Stations” in the hardest-hit areas, where customers can receive free water and ice. Those locations are in Lawrenceville, Lumberton, Newark, Paramus, Roselle Park and Willingboro.
