Brandin Cooks proved he is still one of the league’s elite wide receivers in 2020.
Coming off career-lows in 2019, Cooks resumed his prolific production during his first season with the Houston Texans. Cooks caught 81 passes on 119 targets for 1,150 yards with six touchdowns in 15 games, leading the Texans in receptions and receiving yards in 2020.
Cooks rebounded after he caught just 42 passes for 583 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games with the Los Angeles Rams during the 2019 season. The numbers were his worst since his rookie season in 2014.
Cooks, who was traded to the Texans in April, didn’t have the opportunity to work out with Texans’ quarterback Deshaun Watson during offseason minicamps or OTAs because of the coronavirus pandemic. Cooks learned the offense during a truncated training camp and he made a smooth transition.
With a year of experience, Cooks is expected to produce even more for the Texans in 2021. Will Fuller will be a free agent and isn’t expected to return and Cooks figures to be the No. 1 wideout regardless of who is the quarterback for the Texans.
One website said Cooks “could be the most exciting player on the offense,” depending on what happens with Watson, who has said he doesn’t want to play for the Texans and demanded a trade. If the Texans trade Watson, the same website said Cooks “could become the most important player on the offense no matter the position.”
