'From the Desk of Donald J. Trump' doesn't allow talk-back
PALM BEACH, Fla. (WKBT) — Former President Donald Trump didn’t wait until Wednesday to see whether Facebook lifts its ban against him: He unveiled his own communications platform Tuesday.
Fox News revealed the new platform, titled “From the Desk of Donald J. Trump,” which allows the former president to post comments, images and videos.
The site is powered by Campaign Nucleus, which Fox described as the “digital ecosystem made for efficiently managing political campaigns and organizations,” created by his former campaign manager, Brad Parscale.
The platform allows Trump’s followers to share his posts to Twitter and Facebook, which have banned him for stretching the truth with his claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him and other misleading statements.
However, it doesn’t allow users to reply or react to Trump’s posts.
“This is just a one-way communication,” one source familiar with the space told Fox News. “This system allows Trump to communicate with his followers.”
Jason Miller, one of Trump’s senior advisors, said, “President Trump’s website is a great resource to find his latest statements and highlights from his first term in office, but this is not a new social media platform. We’ll have additional information coming on that front in the very near future.”
Trump’s advisers had vowed that the former president planned intended to create his own social media platform of his own after being banned from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat after the Jan. 6 riot in which his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol.
After that, Facebook blocked Trump indefinitely, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg saying, “The risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great.”
Facebook’s Oversight Board is expected to announce Wednesday whether it will allow him to resume using its platform. But Fox News quoted a Twitter representative as saying that that platform has banned Trump permanently from tweeting.
From the desk of … picks up the tone where the former president left off, with his initial entries being:
“Heartwarming to read new polls on big-shot warmonger Liz Cheney of the great State of Wyoming. She is so low that her only chance would be if vast numbers of people run against her which, hopefully, won’t happen. They never liked her much, but I say she’ll never run in a Wyoming election again!”
“So nice to see RINO Mitt Romney booed off the stage at the Utah Republican State Convention. They are among the earliest to have figured this guy out, a stone cold loser!”
“Please explain to the Democrats and RINOs that the reason Texas-06 completely shut out Democrats in Saturday’s Jungle Primary is because of my Endorsement of Susan Wright, who surged last week after receiving it. The Democrats were shut out and now it will be a contest between two Republicans, a very big win. It would be nice, however, if the pundits and Fake News Media would state the real reason for this unprecedented (Democrats have never been shut out before) victory!”
Even though the platform doesn’t allow followers to comment, it solicits donations and offers Trump merch for sale.
