The Jets added a lot of new offensive players for Zach Wilson this year, but NFL.com’s Gil Brandt believes WR Corey Davis offers one of the most intriguing new connections in the league.

Brandt ranked the Wilson-Davis combo as the third-most exciting new quarterback and pass-catcher due behind Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa and Jaylen Waddle and Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase. The Jets ranked ahead of Carolina’s Sam Darnold and D.J. Moore.

Brandt touched on Davis’ career season with the Titans in 2020 as well as his 9.6 percent catch rate above expectation, which ranked third among plays with at least 90 targets, per Next Gen Stats. Titans QB Ryan Tannehill had a 123.6 pass rating when he targeted Davis last season, which bodes well for Wilson.

Jets offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur is equally excited for Davis’ role in the offense. He explained during minicamp that Davis’ blend of size and speed will help him make great catches all over the field regardless of the route.

“When you have a guy that can put his foot in the ground sharply, still run away from you, catch the ball — our quarterbacks feel that guy,” LaFleur said. “You can feel him going over the middle. You feel like he’s got a big radius and on top of it. He’s fearless. The reason you know that is because you’ve seen it on tape.”

Davis is poised to take over the Jets’ No. 1 receiver role this year after Joe Douglas signed him to a three-year, $37.5 million deal in free agency. He won’t be the only new pass-catcher in the offense, though. Rookie Elijah Moore and versatile receiver Keelan Cole should carve out nice roles with the Jets as well. But Davis will likely be Wilson’s featured target, at least early in the season.
