LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After going down early in doubles, Virginia Tech rallied to beat Louisville, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon. Freshman Charlotte Cartledge clinched the match for the Hokies on Court 6 with a win in three sets.
Erika Cheng got it rolling for Tech in singles after the Hokies dropped the doubles point. Cheng picked up the only two-set win of the day with her 6-4, 6-4 result on Court 4. Tamara Barad Itzhaki gave Virginia Tech a 2-1 lead when she fought in a three-set contest on Court 2. After splitting her first two sets, Barad Itzhaki won her final set, 6-3.
After the match got tied up a 2-2, Semra Aksu stepped up on Court 5. The freshman dropped her first set in a tiebreaker, but rallied for a 6-7, 6-3, 6-1 victory to put the Hokies within one point of their second ACC win of the season.
Cartledge embraced the moment on Court 6. After coming firing with a 6-0 first set, the freshman dropped her second. In the third set she competed until the end and proved to be too much for Louisville, winning the match – 6-0, 4-6, 6-4.
The Hokies will return home for a Commonwealth Clash matchup on April 2 against Virginia.
