After an 11-year wait, eight with the Detroit Tigers, Jason Krizan can finally call himself a major-league hitter.

Krizan, the Detroit Tigers’ eighth-round pick in 2011, made his major-league debut Friday with the San Francisco Giants, going 0-for-3 with a walk in a 14-4 loss to the Washington Nationals. It was his first major-league game after 1,132 games in the minors.

The 32-year-old left-fielder followed with an 0-for-2 effort in Saturday’s 9-3 win over Washington. Finally, in the fifth inning of an 11-5 loss Sunday to Washington, Krizan borrowed the bat of Giants outfielder Joc Pederson and lined a single to right field for his first major-league hit. The hit broke up a no-hit bid by Washington starter Josiah Gray.

The euphoria of his first major-league hit, however, ebbed later Sunday when he learned that the Giants sent him back to Triple A Sacramento to trim the major league roster to 26 from 28.

Krizan, from Dallas Baptist, spent eight years in the Tigers’ minor-league system, playing for West Michigan his first two seasons – with former Tiger and current San Francisco catcher Curt Casali - before a promotion to Lakeland in 2013. He won a Gold Glove in Lakeland in 2013 before a 2014 promotion to Erie, where he hit .293.

He was invited to Detroit’s Spring Training camp in 2015 and spent the next three seasons bouncing between Double A Erie and Triple A Toledo. He signed with the Tigers and played in Toledo in 2018 before signing with the New York Mets as a free agent in 2019.

Krizan played in the Oakland organization in 2020 before signing with the Giants in 2021. He hit .316 with 16 homers in Triple A in 2021, receiving an invitation to San Francisco’s Spring Training camp this year.

Krizan was added to the Giants’ taxi squad in May during the 2021 season but was not activated. He also went to Milwaukee earlier this season in case the Giants needed him, but he was not added to the roster.

Earlier in the week, Krizan spent his time in a San Francisco hotel room, waiting for the call. San Francisco outfielder Mike Yastrzemski tested positive for Covid-19, leaving the Giants at the mercy of other positive tests.

On Friday, first baseman Brandon Belt and pitcher Dominic Leone tested positive, creating the long-awaited opportunity for Krizan.
