Portal 1 and 2
Portal is one of the leading representatives of the puzzle genre, in which you have to solve spatial puzzles using spatial portals. The main character, lab test participant Chell, is trying to escape from the Aperture Science complex. However, she is opposed by a distraught artificial intelligence, GLaDOS, who arranges new tests with portals.
It is an atmospheric and eventful story – at times poignant and at times very funny. Also, the first and the second parts are not long – for those who lack short but intense single-player adventures.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VI
It is the sixth installment of a global strategy series about the development of civilization through all historical eras – from ancient times to the atomic and information age. The player chooses a civilization from several dozen options and begins the game on a randomly generated map – along with other countries.
A civilization must be led to victory – militarily, culturally, scientifically, religiously, or diplomatically. And depending on what you choose, your strategy changes dramatically: the scientific power is unlikely to win culturally, and the religious will not fly into space.
Subnautica
Technically, this is a survival simulator on a hostile oceanic planet with no land, but in reality, it’s almost a horror from the depths of the sea. The protagonist must dive into the darkest and scariest corners of the alien ocean to find the resources he needs.
Subnautica boasts a unique ecosystem with many reefs, underwater caves, and a great variety of biomes and sea creatures, among which there are giant leviathans and bone sharks. Each playthrough is unique thanks to the random generation of the world – there will be something to tell your friends about your adventures in the depths of the sea.
Hades
This game is one of the significant indie hits of our time, winning over a hundred awards in the game of the Year category in 2020. The story is based on ancient Greek mythology: the protagonist is the son of the god of the dead, Hades, Prince Zagrei, who dreams of escaping the underworld.
Hades is a “roguelike”: each death takes you back to the beginning of the journey, but this is part of the gameplay – between deaths, your progress is saved, and even the story develops. And the world, meanwhile, changes beyond recognition in each new run, so none of the attempts to get out of the underworld are like any other.
Cities: Skylines
It is the premier urban planning simulator of our time – and a visual self-study for aspiring mayors. The player has to do everything:
- Adjust the system of transport and urban areas.
- Monitor the environment and political attitudes.
- Reduce crime, not prevent the failure of sewage and electricity.
Hollow Knight
This game is a stylish platformer about a beetle knight who explores a mysterious underground world called Hollow Knight.
