LAKOTA, N.D. — Due to a water main burst, there are over 600 people waiting on water in Lakota, and they could get it as early as Saturday, Aug. 15.

The water main had burst in the city on Monday, Aug. 10, causing a boil order being issued for the city.

Nearly all week, the city has been handing out water bottles from city hall, but now the city is testing the water and should know if it's safe to drink by Saturday night.

Local businesses, such as the Daily Queen reopened Friday after shutting down because of the boil order.

Mayor Brad Hooey, who has only been mayor for just two months, said he's grateful for the community support.

"No shortage of volunteers. We are in good shape. We're alright," he said.

The city does not know when the water main can be repaired because of it's location in a wetland. The city is getting emergency water from Tri-County.

"Don't wash your car don't water your lawn. Just be conscientious of your water use and we will get by," Mayor Hooey said.
