One Piece: 5 Most Exciting Fights (& 5 That Were Disappointing) - CBR - Comic Book Resources

As Eiichiro Oda's magnum opus, One Piece is one of the most popular shonen manga in history. With over 1000 chapters already, the series is known for its consistent story writing, along with mind-blowing worldbuilding and, as with most other shonen stories, incredible fights.

While the fights might not be the strongest selling point of One Piece, the story has delivered some of the most over-the-top clashes over the years, which is expected of a manga with that length. At the same time, some fights in One Piece ended up disappointing the fans in one way or another and are, thus, mostly forgettable.

10 EXCITING: Luffy's Fight Against Lucci Tested His The Willpower

Ron Lucci Shigan

Luffy's fight against Lucci lives on as one of the most exciting fights in the entire story to this day. Thanks to the emotional weight and tension that this fight carried, every single blow the two traded kept the fans at the edge of their seats. Although Luffy fell several times in the battle, his willpower allowed him to break through all his limits and defeat Lucci with a devastating blow that he couldn't recover from. Enies Lobby is known to be one of One Piece's strongest arcs, and Luffy closes it off with his victory in quite some style.

9 DISAPPOINTING: Usopp's Fight Against Page One Was Badly Handled

Often, the Straw Hat Pirates split up and each take on an enemy from the opposing forces, and the Wano Country arc was no different. During the Onigashima raid, Usopp came face-to-face with Page One and lost the fight against him. Most of the clash was spent running away from him and provided no substantial action for the fans. Eventually, it was Big Mom, one of the Yonko of the Sea, who struck down Page One with her Conqueror's Haki and helped Usopp out.

8 EXCITING:  Zoro Was Forced To Evolve Against Mr. 1

Zoro's fight against Mr. 1 is, arguably, the best battle that he's fought to date. He started the fight weaker than him, and despite trying his hardest, Zoro couldn't get past Mr. 1's Supa Supa no Mi powers.

Eventually, he was forced to grow stronger in the midst of battle by understanding what the Breath of All Things was. Using this power, Zoro could cut what he wanted, and the steel body of the assassin from West Blue was no exception.

7 DISAPPOINTING: Nami's Clash Against Ulti Was Taken Over By Zeus

Nami Vs Ulti One Piece

Just like Usopp's fight against Page One, Nami's clash with one of the Tobiroppo, Ulti, didn't go as fans would've liked. Instead of fighting, Nami spent the entire fight running away from her until Big Mom weakened her to a point where her body was heavily damaged on the inside. Nami's final attempt to strike her down resulted in yet another failure, and Zeus took it upon himself to finish off Ulti.

6 EXCITING: Luffy's Fight Against Katakuri Was His Biggest Test In The New World

Luffy stepped into the New World having spent two years training his Haki and most of the challenges that he faced initially weren't close to his level. Even Doflamingo, who was a powerful Shichibukai, couldn't stand up to the might of Luffy's stratagem, Gear Fourth. This changed quickly during the Whole Cake Island arc, however, where Katakuri proved to be better than Luffy in every manner. Luffy spent the majority of the fight on the defensive and was forced to take his Observation Haki to the next level, resulting in what could be described as One Piece's best fight.

5 DISAPPOINTING: Zoro's Fight Against Pica Offered No Challenge

The Dressrosa arc of One Piece saw Roronoa Zoro take on Pica of the Donquixote Family in battle. Although the Ishi Ishi no Mi powers proved to be tricky for Zoro to deal with, Pica himself was way too weak to fight him. The stone-assimilating human fell short in all the areas, be it strength, technique, or Haki. Zoro was able to make quick work of Pica without so much as receiving a single scratch, making this fight rather bland.

4 EXCITING: Sanji Burned Through CP-9's Jabra

Sanji Vs Jabra in One Piece

Sanji fought Jabra of the CP-9 during the Enies Lobby arc of the series, and just as most other fights during the arc, this one proved to be quite a spectacle.

Although Sanji was powerful enough to hold his own against Jabra, he needed tools to break through his impressive Tekkai, which he achieved by creating a technique known as Diable Jambe. By setting his foot on fire, Sanji was able to burn through Jabra's defenses and eventually defeat him in a single blow.

3 DISAPPOINTING: Luffy Defeated Mr. 3 Without Any Trouble Whatsoever

One Piece's Little Garden arc showed the diversity of the world to the fans in full effect as the Straw Hat Pirates traveled across the prehistoric island. Running into the Baroque Works eventually, it was up to Luffy to take care of Mr. 3, one of the most troublesome characters in the story at the point. Surprisingly, he proved to be no challenge for Luffy and was defeated in a single hit, which was a great display of Luffy's strength but ended up disappointing the fans.

2 EXCITING: The Worst Generation Went All-Out Against The Yonko

Luffy Vs Kaido

Perhaps the most important arc in One Piece to date, Wano Country saw five members of the Worst Generation in Luffy, Zoro, Law, Kid, and Killer team up to take on the alliance of Kaido and Big Mom. The fight displayed the true power of the Yonko to the fullest but, at the same time, showed the potential that the Worst Generation carried. Every member of the group was able to show the utmost best of their abilities and prove to the fans why the next generation is not to be underestimated.

1 DISAPPOINTING: Sanji Couldn't Fight Judge's Inhumane Tactics

Sanji and Judge came face-to-face during the Whole Cake Island arc of the story and inevitably traded blows. Although Sanji was able to do quite well against his father despite not showing his true powers, he gave up on the fight upon seeing men being used as human shields. What could've been a great clash was completely ruined by the inhuman nature of Judge who didn't even think twice before killing his own men.
