Class of '25 brings exciting interests and experiences to DePauw - DePauw University

One student has taught English to youngsters in Japan. Others started the Gay-Straight Alliance and the Latinx Student Union at their high schools.

Another started a nonprofit that provides feminine hygiene products to girls and women whose inability to afford them keeps them out of school. Still another created his own clothing line.

There’s an Ethics Bowl state champion; a Special Olympics coach; and a triplet.

All are among the 509 students who make up DePauw’s Class of 2025, an accomplished, diverse and intriguing group of individuals who bring a variety of experiences and interests to campus.

“Our community is thrilled to welcome such a talented, intellectually impressive, diverse group of students into our Class of 2025,” said Amanda Ryan, assistant vice president for admission. “Throughout the application process, it was clear that this group of young individuals did not let the challenges this past year provided stand in their way of accomplishing their goals. We are excited to see the impact they will make during their time here and have no doubt that they will take advantage of all DePauw has to offer.”

The class has 261 women and 248 men who come from 35 states and 20 countries. It includes 21 valedictorians and six salutatorians. Eighty class members are legacies, meaning a relative attended or attends DePauw. Eighty-eight are first-generation college students and 97 are students of color.

The Honor Scholar Program is welcoming 104 new members, while the class also has 75 management fellows, 27 media fellows and 22 environmental fellows. Eleven students are Rector scholars; 20 are Bonner scholars; and 18 are Posse members.

The class also boasts 190 athletes, many of whom were captains of their high school teams. They participate in cross country, track, swimming, water polo, basketball, skiing, lacrosse, football, soccer, gymnastics, tennis, cheerleading, volleyball, field hockey, golf, rowing, softball, badminton and rugby. At least one is a personal trainer.

Many members of the Class of 2025 have musical talent. They play violin, piano and French horn; they sing show tunes and jazz. The class includes at least one drum major, a marching band member and a ballet dancer.

Several class members have been student government leaders. Their ranks include Eagle Scouts and high-achieving Girl Scouts, as well as competitors in a scholar bowl, a national history day competition and on speech, ethics and math teams.
