Reader's View: GOPers can wait with rest for vaccine - Duluth News Tribune

Sen. Gazelka, like most of his Republican colleagues, enabled the spread of the coronavirus by doing little to combat the incompetence of our president and his response to the pandemic — or lack of response. He even came into close contact with President Donald Trump and had to quarantine when Trump belatedly announced he was infected.

Fortunately, Sen. Gazelka did not end up like Herman Cain, the former GOP presidential candidate. Cain, a rabid Trump supporter who encouraged massive attendance at the Trump rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, died from a virus he underestimated. What a waste. Cain did not have to die. He sacrificed himself on the altar of Trump.

The idea that Minnesotans should put up with a Trump enabler is nonsense. Gazelka has opposed almost every measure Gov. Tim Walz has proposed and implemented yet wants to jump the line for the vaccine.

Since he impeded a useful response to the spread of COVID-19, Gazelka should wait in line with the rest of Minnesota and bide his time until the Trump promise of 300 million vaccine doses for our country is available. I predict he’ll be waiting several months — like the rest of us.
