New skydiving business not exciting for neighbor - Kennebec Journal & Morning Sentinel

Here I sit in my little home in Winslow. It is a gorgeous Sunday, the sun is shining, the temperature is not too hot nor too cold, just a perfect day to have all the windows open in the house and enjoy our nice clean air.

However, since the new skydiving business opened at the Waterville airport (“Skydiving company takes off in first months at Waterville airport,” July 31), I can’t open my windows because of the constant irritating buzzing of the airplane circling above my house all day long (from about 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.). Even closing my windows helps very little to curtail the noise of the airplane. It’s so bad that I am considering moving out of Winslow just to get away from the noise.

Then, I also have to wonder what the plane is doing to our air quality. If I do open my windows aren’t I just inviting airplane exhaust into my home? And when I go for a walk, why should I have to wear earplugs just to drown out the noise, and why do I have to be breathing in airplane exhaust?

They operate this business six days a week, closed on Tuesdays. Thank heavens for Tuesdays, the one day of the week I can open up my house. How about they just fly on Tuesdays and be closed the other six days of the week? That would be much more tolerable.

I am all in favor of new start-up companies and am so pleased when they do well and prosper — if they don’t interfere with my quality of life like this one does. In the alternative to shutting down the business, is there a muffler or something that can be attached to these little buzzing air polluting hunks of metal?
